Hall controls play as evident in his significantly better Corsi ratings. Defenders back up scared ****less of him skating down the wing for loose pucks. Eberle simply is a notch below Hall in terms of overall play. He is a better natural goal scorer, that's it.
Much better play maker, better defensively, better stick handling/hands, better vision, better shooter at this point in their careers. Hall has speed, but in terms of overall ability, he's worst for now.
The 2008 Red Wings had 8 centers in their top twelve...
They had 5 on a 29 man roster, Hudler isn't a center even though he's listed as one and that leaves Zetterberg, Helm, Datsyuk, Filppula and Draper, which makes sense cause Dats played the wing the majority of the time. Then there's Clearly, Samuelsson, Hudler, Drake, Mccartney, Maltby, Franzen, Holmstrom, who are all wingers, where are the 8 centers? unless you count Hartigan who played 4 games...
Unless you're referring to the regular season.. which is dumb because there's injuries and call ups happening all the time and almost all teams will have 6-8+ centers listed.
Unless you mean at one specific time in the regular season.
Team Canada's best players are centres, period. No use leaving them out because there's too much.
That's the kind of logic that Yzerman didn't use when he built a championship team in 2010.
He left off Stamkos, B. Richards and Lecavalier to make room for players like Nash, Morrow, and Perry who could play in their natural positions. Do you think he made a mistake?
Has everyone forgotten how useless Staal and Bergeron looked on the wing?

Well, for starters I don't think Lecavalier and Richards are/were better than Nash and Perry so that doesn't matter. Stamkos should have been on that team.
I can't believe Mike Richards is winning this. I'm not sure I'd even have him on my roster.
I would've picked Bergeron before him but voting for Patrice would've been a waste of a vote in this poll.
Spezza has no business being on Team Canada. He isn't better offensively than Crosby, Stamkos or Tavares and isn't better defensively than Toews, Bergeron or Richards. In fact, Spezza is downright bad defensively and would probably get exposed even more on large ice. Team Canada doesn't like playing centres on the wing, especially ones that have never played wing before. Where is Spezza supposed to fit on this team?

Defensively they're a wash. Hall controls the game much better than Eberle and is already a more effective player than him. I don't know why you'd argue with the fans that watch them both game in, game out.
That said, you are correct in saying Eberle would slot in beautifully with Crosby/Tavares/Giroux.

Maybe on the PP, Eberle's better at ES, and I'm a local, I probably watch them just as much as any Oiler fan, aside from a couple games a year. Eberle is more developed in his game right now and still developing, while Hall is less polished and has less than a year to make huge strides.
In his rookie season, Crosby was instantly one of the best players in the game and Hockey Canada still passed him over. Even though it was an obvious mistake, I doubt they'd make an exception for Mackinnon (who's nowhere near as good as Sid was).
Rick Nash. Him and Mike Richards should flank Toews on his wings again. The three of them were our best line in 2010.
I thought Nash played with Crosby and Iginla. Didn't Ricahrds and Toews play with Morrow/Bergeron? Maybe they just juggled lines later and I forgot about it but I'm pretty sure they at least started that way.

For a shutdown line I would do:
Bergeron - Toews - Richards.
Nash started with Crosby but they had no chemistry so he was put next to Toews and Richards. After the swap they were easily our best line.
