Meh, you shouldn't feel that bad, your prospect is not to shabby himself. He has impressed me almost as much as Galchenyuk has even though he may be a couple years older than him. Almost 2ppg in the QMJHL at 20(almost 21?) years of age is nothing to be sneezed at!

Ok, I understand where your coming from. You could say that as he was drafted 1st in the ohl and 3rd in the nhl, he had to catch up. I don't, did it affect his draft ranking? sure! good thing for us.

I think we have a disconnect in our statements. Do I see a lateness in his development? yes I do, but not on his potential. Which is the point I was trying to make.

I think that the only reason Yakupov was first and Galchenyuk was third is the perception that Yakupov was nhl ready and Galchenyuk was not. ( I tend to agree)

Potential-wise, I see them as equals. (Maybe even a smidge better to Galchenyuk with his size)

We're definitely not on the same page. My only concern was over his development, I have never questioned his potential, injury, and talent level.

Galchenyuk certainly could emerge as the better player, but I'd still have to go with Yakupov. Too premature to make any definitive statements.

21?! He's younger than I thought.
Can't wait to see both of them at WJCs this year.

So where is the Habs avatar of Gally?? I guess you're not so fearless afterall...big talker and no balls is what you are.

True. Without Strome and Hamilton, that team's in the pits.

The ACL injury didn't concern me in regards to Galchenyuk before the draft. He essentially missed an entire year of playing and being on the ice, being in situations, working on his game, etc., etc., etc. In the grand scheme of things, that's like missing your junior year in HS and being expected to immediate re-join your peers in the next grade and excel (according to his draft position). Unless you're Sheldon Cooper, you're going to have to catch up and you're at an immediate disadvantage. That's my point to this.

By the looks of things, Galchenyuk seems to have overcome that and in a very short period of time. Good for him, but not completely unexpected. It is arguable that he was the cream of the crop in his 16 year old season and that the lost year let others catch up to him. Only time will tell how things play out, but he's looking very impressive.
Missing a full year of hockey does hamper development, but it's not a lost year, not even close considering he already had an elite skill set. He's shown he is a serious and dedicated player, thus didn't sit there doing nothing. He trained and studied the game hard so he wouldn't lose a step. Players from all sports say in interviews that time off from long injuries made them better players, because they watched more video, got to concentrate on the mental aspect of the game, and mention how it's a character builder. Teams nowadays have all these resources available for their players, meaning that losing a full year isn't that big of a deal as long as you have the right attitude, which Galchenyuk has.

Galchenyuk is a brilliant prospect. Reminds me of a more offensively gifted Ryan Johansen.

I'm an Oilers fan, but I think he's going to give Yakupov a run for his money in terms fo most valuable player from this draft.

It is quite silly to compare Galchenyuk to other prospects of his class at the moment. They haven't been drafted for half a year yet! Wait at least 2-3 years before decide who turned out the best.

3 point night for Gally with 1 goal, 2 assists in a 7-4 win over Saginaw. That gives him 44 points in 26 games.

As a Sens fan I want to hate the Habs, but have no reason too. I actually kinda like the Habs lol. I hope Gally becomes a stud for em.

well it took Sarrault until his 4th and 5th season to put up these numbers...calling him a beast is ridiculous.

Adds the hat trick goal in an ENG. Up to a 1.77 PPG. Just ripping it up.

It took Joe Thornton 4 seasons to put up a PPG in the NHL. Is he a beast?

I wonder, if Galchenyuk had this season last year instead of being injured would he have gone 1st overall?

IMO, 100% sure Galchenyuk goes first overall with those numbers. No question about it. But would it have been possible for Galchenyuk to put up those kind of numbers last year? Hard to tell, probably not.
