I agree you shouldnt have an 'enforcer' on Defence doing all the fighting, BUT i think it is very important to have hard nosed defenders spinkled around. Punishing opposition forwards and the ability to intimdate and clear the crease get in the face of interfering enemy around the goalie. and Teach them a lesson if need be. I think a Slightly more Skilled Strudwick is a perfect example. Purinton isnt even that good at fighting and has SERIOUS dicispline issues.

Yeah, I know. But look at the boards. I was making a statement in general. I'm just bothered by the falling into the old method of replacing veterans with signings. No one is even considering a prospect to take Rucinsky's spot.

If he isn't UFA then what is with the talk that if he doesn't break into the NHL with NYR then he'll do it elsewhere?

If nothing else, as the rodent mentions,

he is an asset that can be bartered. Whether it be in June or during training camp. Once again we are also talking about accumulating assets for our own use or as chips. Maybe he can be used to move up in a swap of 1st round picks?

What is somewhat amazing is how once again Slats & company have lucked out! I sure hope they don't wipe whatever they've stepped in these past 3 years from their shoes! Whatever it is, keep it on!

he caught nedveditis by playing too much with petr nedved. If Marek turns into a Hlavac that wouldn't be a bad thing. You can never have enogh assets.

I explained in the first paragraph. What's not to understand?

Marek won the scoring championship. His agent is getting calls. His trade value will never be higher. If NYR doesn't want to play Jan this coming season, what possible reason would Sather have to retain Marek's rights one more year? That's stupid. Slats would trade Marek now while the return would be its highest.

Could Sather "sit" on Marek one more year? I suppose so. But that doesn't make any sense. Marek's value could only go down. It won't get any higher than it is now.

My argument for signing him is, is that we don't need

another plumber! Do we?
