So what exactly is the point of all of the proposals you're listing and intend to list?

Hey, not like we've got anything better going on with this lockout business.

I don't know how many contracts we can take back. I think we're right against the contract limit.

sounds like Bryz played a great game

Big Game for Bryzgalov

In the wee hours of this morning U.S./Canada time, Ilya Bryzgalov got the start in goal for CSKA Moscow in a road game against Amur Khabarovsk. Located a mere 20 miles from the Russia-Chinese border, Khaborovsk is nearly 5,300 miles away from Moscow.

Playing in front of a crowd of 7,100 fans, CSKA nipped the home team by a 2-1 score. Bryzgalov was the star of the game for his team, which understandably did not have its skating legs for much of the match.

Bryzgalov turned back 33 of 34 shots to earn the win. He was especially good in the second period, stopping 14 of 15 shots and helping CSKA survive three penalty kills. CSKA then controlled most of the third period and earned the one goal win.

Igor Grigorenko scored his second goal of the game to break the 1-1 deadlock with 4:39 remaining in regulation. Alexander Osipov scored the lone goal for Amur.

Does this mean he's adjusted to the KHL? Will we need to readjust him to the NHL? Should we panic?

Amur Khabarovsk is 2nd from the bottom in the Eastern Standings in the KHL.
Only 4 teams have scored fewer goals then they have.
But I guess since Bryzgalov has played like crap over there we got to start somewhere.

Well, they did win three games in a row before today's loss against CSKA, though. It's not like they're a crap team. Just evaluate the game on its own merits.

Stanya on Bryz

Goalkeeper CSKA Rastislav Stanya gave an exclusive interview to Sportbox.ru. Below are the excerpts relevant to Iliya Bryzgalov.

Q: It is a popular opinion that you have benefited from competition with Iliya Bryzgalov

A: That is correct. After Iliya was signed, I started playing with the understanding that if fail to play well, he will get a chance to show his skills. I work my hardest to play my best so that I am trusted to start the next game as well. We have 3 good goalies on the team, and I played the majority of the games. But I can’t say that I am distinctively the number 1 goalie

Q: Does that affect your psyche?

A: Not at all. I learn a lot from Iliya. During practice I watch the way he catches a puck, the way he gets set for a shot and how he reacts to it. I try it and it works. He is being criticized a lot... You have to understand, it was difficult for him to start playing at his level immediately, since he had not had a pre-season. But he has been playing much better lately.

Q: Does the competition between you and him affect your off ice relationship?

A: Not at all. Bryzgalov and Proskuryakov are very nice guys. We are very good friends, we talk and joke a lot. We understand each other well. People say that Bryzgalov is too out of the ordinary. In my opinion, he just has an excellent sense of humor.

It's a shame it takes over a month for him to get in a groove. At least he's not Fleury, though.

His performance hasn't really changed that much since the beginning of the season. It's just that with a small sampling of games what he was doing at the beginning seemed like a catastrophe, and now that he had a statistically good game (his stats are now better than Rinne's, by the way ) and there was an article/blog post written on it by an author that has not seen the game, the impression is that he is back in his groove. I'm not saying there's been no improvement, and truthfully I'm not really in a position to say, as I haven't seen any full CSKA games. But judging from the highlights (the extended, Russian version) the change hasn't been as great as some here seem to think.

Plus, Fleury is still a great goalie, he just had one bad series, where mistakes got magnified due to the openness of play in general. Not him nor Bryz were as bad as stats make them out to be. Couple somewhat worse play with normal variation and you get what we saw last year.

Fleury has recently been prone to streaks of terrible play; worse than Bryzgalov was last year. Our series wasn't a fluke, he does that now.

From the gameplay clips I saw of Bryz earlier in the year, he MUST be doing something differently...because he looked sloppy as hell. Sloppy goalies don't put up 33/34.

He's been an average goaltender in the regular season the last few years and he's been pretty terrible for most of the playoff runs with the pens with the exception of the 2008 playoff run.

people act like that series wasn't two of the highest scoring teams in the league. as far as the jersey series i rewatched those games and i thought he played great. he kept us in games while we were seriously outshot and getting the **** forechecked out of us.
