This lockout reminds of the poor saps who were locked out of the wood business on Argyl for ten years.

"Just one more year and the company is going to give in and give our jobs back"

Course that didnt happen.

Well if Katz is involved in the meeting the players will be happy. He's afraid to talk to his cat.

Wow. This definitely makes me think the PA is out of touch with reality. The league is losing money, but we can't cut teams, we can't cut pay, everything has to stay exactly the same even though the times have changed. Right.

Just get back to work, boys. You don't know what you're doing.

This is what the players don't seem to get.
Are they really stupid enough to think they can get a better deal than other major sports.
From here on in, the deal they get only gets worse.

even if they could it boggles the mind that they think 50% of teams either just breaking even or losing money is acceptable and a good way to run the league.

to be fair to the players, they don't think that it is acceptable... i'm sure their solution would be 100% revenue sharing, so that the league as a whole would be about break-even, because toronto, montreal, NYR etc would be supporting the teams losing money... sure, no team would make more than $1 million in profit (if that), but it's likely that nobody would lose money either

this is drug-induced fantasy of course, and will never in a million years happen.... but it allows the players to say that they have a solution for the monetary woes of the poor teams

Also taking Horcoff for example, do you expect him to have an Encyclopedic knowledge of something that he graduated from, oh 12 years ago? Has he been taking night classes to keep sharp in the event that he gets bought out and ends up in the poor house when he's made $30+ million in his career or has he not given a crap about it since making many millions?

Crosby's face and voice means more than Horcoff's does, is there one person out there that's saying "man I'm jonesing to see Horcoff play right now!" or "man I wish I could get Horcoff's take on this"?
I agree . Most go to college to get better jobs . You do not got to college to brag about what you know . Crosby makes more in 1 year then most , not all college grads will make in their life time . We all want better jobs because they pay more . Bottom line if you can make millions with out it you are going to do it

so the pa' is giving all their players $10,000 if i understood this correctly.
$10,000x700+ players= $7 million+
Some players must really be running low lol
the 10k is for players not playing in Europe or on the farm teams

The 10K is for everyone though. The ones playing in Europe and on their AHL salary will still be getting it.

$10K should cover some of these guys' mortgage payments for a month, two at most. Maybe it'll be enough so that Horcoff can get himself an NHLPA jersey now

$10k is so they can afford to buy their hangers on drinks so they can keep on telling them that they are hard done by.

If the owners and players really gave a damn about the fans they would agree to something like:

- Players come back and play for $500 per game plus insurance coverage;
- Owners charge $5 per person per game to cover player costs;
- all TV and advertising revenue going to a 3rd party to administer to cover arena overhead with anything left over going to charity.

At least the fans would be entertained while they settle their sandbox fight.

Why not? Set it up so both sides make no real money, but the fans are at least kept involved.

Perhaps the players would realize then, why they play this game in the first place; and the owners would realize they need the fans and players to make this league work.

This lock out is all about greedy owners and players 'taking' ... maybe for once they should consider 'giving'.

I can't tell if you are an idealist or delusional, though often they are synonymous. I see where you come from, and it's nice to think that players play because they love the game. The fact is that the world does not work that way. If no one made any money, then what is the point?

The owners and players do give us something: entertainment.

Time and time again, supply and demand will dictate the outcome. As long as fans are willing to show up the game will go on.

Well, it's nice to think you believe I'm delusional. I'll keep them to myself from now on, so as not to affend you.

@KatieStrangESPN: #CBA Can confirm: players/owners-only meeting will take place. Six owners are Jacobs, Edwards, Chipman, Burkle, Tannenbaum and Vinik

Can someone figure out which teams these owners are from i'm not quite sure

@TSNBobMcKenzie: NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly will also be part of the meeting. I believe players to attend the meeting are being selected now.

McKenzie just tweeted that the PA is in the process of selecting the players who will participate.

Horcoff - "Pick me! Pick me!"

Graduate business major who was a player rep for years. Probably not out of the realm of possibility that he`s picked.

Jacobs - Bruins
Edwards - One of the Flames owners
Chipman - Jets
Burkle - Penguins
Tannenbaum - Leafs
Vinik - Lightning

Even if Katz wanted to participate the NHL would probably tell him to bugger off. I know I would.
