AFAIK a torn meniscus is usually not that serious. Hopefully that is the case for Smid.

This is usually a 2-6 week injury, no? In that case, he'll be ready for any NHL season.

If there are pieces broken off and floating around ... they got to be 'fished' out. Not saying worst case scenario, but he is an Oiler after all.

I feel bad for Smid, but whatever. There isn't going to be a season anyway.

I tore mine this spring. It took me 4 months before I could play goal again and it wasn't a bad tear either. If its bad enough they will remove it as it does not heal well.

IIRC meniscus injuries are far worse for goalies in hockey and catchers in baseball more than other positions because you are always putting crazy amounts of pressure into your knees.

I just hope Laddy is gonna be ok soon.

Chase Budinger of the Minny Timberwolves suffered a torn meniscus injury on his left knee about 3 weeks ago and will need surgery. His time table is 3 to 4 month hoping to return in the middle of March.

It goes both ways. I tore mine a few years back, and I was playing the next game a few nights later. And I'm a goalie too

Looks like the Nuge may be dealing with some sort of a tear or re-aggravated shoulder injury.

All I heard he was in Edmonton having his shoulder looked at.

The Edmonton Journal has a piece and mentions it.

I've had a torn meniscus repaired in my knee. It's pretty trivial, though I don't know exactly what the recover time was because I also had an ACL repair and that was looooooong.

He'll be fine, if that's all there is.

They said today that it was something they scheduled him to come in to do a while ago. More a precaution to check on the progress from last years injury

Yeah I gathered that much now. Didn't mean to alarm anyone although my message sort of implied such. Here's hoping the news is completely positive. Smids injury on the other hand is quite the set back.

Well I have googled and gone through the last 24hr of my twitter feeds and can't find anything about Smid being hurt.

Going to lock this thread until there's something official.
