Wow. That really blows. U guys deserve at least the chick fli a after going 8-4. It sucks that you can't decline and go to a bowl somewhere else, even if it is technically a "lesser" bowl...

And they are playing NC State the team UT blew out in the 1st game of the year and the team James C Franklin is rumored to be wanting to coach. But he was extended today

MTSU goes 8-4 and doesn't go to a bowl game?

I know for a fact that in either 2006 or 2007 the NCAA put in a rule that said any bowl that has to take an at-large because it's partner conferences can't fulfill it's obligations (due to not enough eligible teams) that the bowls HAD to select an 8 win team before a 7 win team before a 6 win team...

This means that either every conference sent enough bowl eligible teams to fulfill their obligations, or there was an at-large team (or more) who had 9 wins?

There are 35 bowl games this year and 74 bowl eligible teams.

6-6 teams are...

Ole Miss
Air Force
Central Michigan
Minnesota (last place in Big 10 Legends)
Michigan State
Purdue
Rice
SMU
Pittsburgh
Iowa State
Duke
Virginia Tech
Georgia Tech (6-7)

That's 13 teams. 47 teams had an equal or better record than MTSU, so they had a better record than 26 bowl eligible teams. Can't wait for them to get into a better conference so they don't have to deal with this BS anymore.

MTSU has a huge alumni base but draws peanuts for games. Also most of the teams on that list are BCS schools with huge followings. Bowls are about $$$$ and nothing else Central Michigan is the glaring exception.

I get that, I'm just saying how stupid it is for a 6-6 team to get into any bowl over an 8-4. Just another reason that the bowl system is stupid, just because it's been around for 100 years doesn't make it any less of a sham. Not to mention, the bigger the school following is doesn't mean they will bring more to a bowl game. For the bigger schools a 6-6 season is a failure and none of their fans are interested in going to some crappy "consolation" bowl, it's a case where perception is not reality. In the right bowl, MTSU will bring a decent amount of fans.

Georgia Tech at 6-7, should not be bowl eligible and Minnesota finishing last in their division should not be bowl eligible.

For the record, the 7 win teams...

NC State
Miami (FL)
Oklahoma State
Texas Tech
TCU
Baylor
West Virginia
Syracuse
Navy
BYU
Nevada
Washington
USC
Arizona St.
Arizona
Western Kentucky

Western is the real kicker here, a worse record in the same conference, including a head to head victory...

This brings up another point. Wins over FCS schools should not count towards bowl eligibility. MTSU's 8 wins were all against FBS teams.

Teams with 5 or fewer FBS wins:

Georgia Tech
Virginia Tech (5 FBS wins include Georgia Tech)
Duke
Texas Tech (2 of 7 were FCS wins...)
Iowa State
Pittsburgh
Purdue
Minnesota (last place and only 5 FBS wins)
SMU
Rice
Central Michigan
Navy (2 of 7 were FCS wins...)
BYU
Ole Miss

La Tech screwed themselves... they were invited to the Independence Bowl and wouldnt commit because they thought they would get a better offer, then when that fell through, the Independence had already filled their slot.

it could also be a red Wings thing... maybe Illitch said "preds beat my Wings in the playoffs? well then we will not have a TN team in the Pizza bowl... bwahahaha"

Does Strong have UT connections? If not, I think hed be a fool to leave a team that will probably be competitive for the ACC title year in and year out for an SEC job that will be a difficult turnaround and where he probably has to get big results pretty fast...

Ryan I think we need a clown bet on which of our teams will be in the basement; Red Sox Yankees. Jeter's ankle and A-Rod's hip vs Red Sox crappy signings

Strong is an SEC guy. He has been in and out of the league since 1988, primarily with Florida. He was the defensive coordinator for both of their national titles under Urban Meyer.

I've been saying Charlie Strong the whole time. I think he'll be a good fit. His specialty is defense, which Tennessee desperately needs if they want to compete in the SEC. Although few things would bring me greater joy than their continued titanic failure...

Strong would be a fool to leave Louisville for anything other than a top tier job created by a coaching retirement. He's got it made in louisville at least for now. Of course, coaches have left solid jobs before, so I guess we will see.

Baltimore's pitching scares me more then NYY, and Tampa has Longoria, Zobrist, and not much else. Yankees have their warts. But CC, Pettite, Kuroda, and Hughes is solid top 4. Phelps and the kids can hold the 5 spot down. Lineup wise, it is still good, even with ARod sucking. Boston isn't as bad off as people think, they have a ton of good young talent if they let them play. Middlebrooks-Boegarts-Pedroia-Napoli is solid. Ellsbury-Victorino is solid, just need a guy that is a gap hitter to plug into RF and their Offense is set. Lester-Bucholtz-Doubront should be solid. Wild Card is Lackey response to TJ. Rubby De la Rosa should be ready I thik for opening day, and he was one of the jewels of trading crawford and Agonz. Between him and Webster (the other prize) they should be ok. #knowthyenemy

And the Jays are much better. Offensively they could be epic. Speed to burn. Pitching will be better they lost 2 pitchers to TJ surgery and smaller injuries. I think a 2 yr stint in the basement would be healthy for the Sox. I'm gonna pull a Viqsi and lease a space on the Jays bandwagon.
