Love when people post select YouTube videos to further their arguments. How come no ones brought up how half of Seguins points were scored in a month and a half.
Consistency should be another category and another win for Hall.
. Shooting Seguin and it honestly isn't even close. He's got better velocity, better accuracy, and a quicker release. Hall is a great scorer, but most of his goals are clean-up jobs near the net. Seguin has some sick snipes
That's the best snipe in Hall's NHL career - and literally the only one of his goals close to being this good.
Both players are perfect for their respective teams. The bruins do not need Taylor Hall. They don't need a brash-crash the net- do whatever it takes to score- on and off the ice captain of the team type player. They have leadership in bergeron and Chara. They have a big winger in Lucic. The oilers don't need Seguin, they dont need another scorer who has skill and calculates what he does who's smooth and does things the right way. The Bruins need that.
The Oilers haven't had a player like Hall since Messier. When he is on the ice, HE CONTROLS THE GAME. No matter if he's playing against Crosby or The Sedins or whatever, HIS PRESENCE WILL BE FELT. He is the emotional and physical leader of our team. He creates space for ebs and RNH. He crashes the net with fearlessness like no one else in the league. Against Chicago he had a hattrick and he still decided to speed by the defender and crash the net to score and almost took his head off. WE NEED THAT. Not to also mention his leadership, which is almost Toews-like at his age. He does things no other player his age does. There are many guys who can score. Rarely can you get a guy who can do what Taylor Hall does. He does MUCH more than score for us. He'll be our captain by next year. And when eventually we make the playoffs thats when people will really see how important he is. He has Toews-like intangibles.
Seguin is a great player. You couldn't go wrong with either of them for all the other 29 teams. But the Oilers NEEDED Hall. Desperately. We were the softest team before him. HE gave our team heart, passion, energy and he controls the game. He is built for the playoffs, like Jonathon Toews is, something you will see when we eventually make it...
BTW: Im not saying he is Jonathon Toews. They are different players. But they have similar intangibles.

I like this. HF should have a like button for posts. serious.
They are both completely different players. Hall is a more gritty/crash the net/goalscorer while Seguin is more a finess playmaker. Saying Hall cannot dangle is not true at all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDMoStcfS5w
i'd say Seguin has more raw skill and is the better player right now, but Hall is more of a impact player and will be the better player later on, once he starts playing full seasons. He was on pace for 30 goal seasons in both his last two years
Hall is great but Edmonton passing on Seguin was absolutely hilarious
Yea, it was hilarious that Edmonton selected the guy most people had at #1
Honestly, it doesn't matter what happens with Seguin, Larsson, Landeskog, Murray, etc... Edmonton took the consensus BPA every time, so there's never a reason for the picks to be questioned.
Love, love, love Hall's determination, character, personality and leadership. I think he is our future captain and if not, he should be. I wanted Seguin at the time and I don't think he possesses those same attributes in a similar class at all.
However, I still stick with Seguin. His high-end skill and value will be higher in the long run and is higher right now IMO.

Pretty much this. Both players provide an off speed pitch for their clubs.
But Seguin scored that goal in the playoffs that one time...
Which? The deke and breakaway in game one against the lightning? The splitting of the D and breakaway goal in game 2 or his snipe in game 2? Or maybe you mean his game winner against the caps in game 6 OT? Wait, no you probably mean the only goal the bruins scored in game 7 against the caps

So you're saying that Crosby, the Sedin's or whoever will have to play Hall's game? Seriously? Are you talking about right now or in the future? Kid is a great player, but you may want to tone down the hype just a smidge.
As for being built for the playoffs, he has yet to finish a season, so even when the Oilers make the playoffs?? Yeah...yeah...I know, acts of God, injury from the minors, headhunters and on and on.
Skating: Edge Hall (but very close) Shooting: Edge Hall (but very close) Passing: Edge Seguin Defense: Edge Seguin Leadership: Who knows, none of us have been in both dressing rooms Offensive Instincts: Depends what you mean. Hall has better 1 on 1 instincts, really knows how to get a defender off balance, but I think Seguin sees the ice better, in terms of recognizing his team mates when he has the puck, and moving to the right spots without the puck Physicality: Hall Durability: Seguin Grit: Hall
Overall Offense: Slight edge Hall Overall Defense: Edge Seguin
Better Player Now: Wash Better Player Later: Not sure
Skating: Hall
Shooting: Toss up - lots of people seem to favor Hall, but for me it's too close to decide
Passing: Seguin
Defense: Seguin but imo it's closer than most people think
Leadership: Hall Like most of us, I have limited knowledge of what kind of locker room guys they are, but IMO Hall has shown better leaderhip on the ice, although the oilers general lack of leadership may be a factor.
Offensive Instincts: Hall very close but and a bit hard to determine but giving this one to Hall based on his PPG.
Physicality: Hall
Durability: Seguin You could argue that some of Hall's injuries occur because of his reckless style of play, but IMO that is the reason why Seguin is more durable.
Grit: Hall Not close
Overall Offense: Hall
Overall Defense: Seguin
Better Player Now: Hall - It's close, and I maybe biased but I think Hall is the better player right now.
Better Player Later: Toss up. I'm glad I didn't have to make the pick at the draft, but I guess I would be quite happy either way as they both will be cornerstone franchise players for years to come.
