Cubs look great thru it all, as much as it pains me to say it.
How so? Marmol is nothing special. He's being paid 7 million when every team is finding good relievers out of nowhere at a fraction of the cost. I would take a chance on Haren and hopes that he bounces back.

Marmol makes nine million, so Haren would have cost them one year at six million. That is a worthy risk to me, but his medicals are supposedly pretty bad.

Well, for starters, they actually said they would take a chance on damaged goods, and the stumbling block was money. That right there showed they had a bit of faith in Haren and only backed out when the Angels had their backs against the wall.

They also picked up the best closer on the market for scraps, still have a decent trade chip they can sell to some unfortunate shlep in Marmol who is horrible but at times has shown he can be dominant.

Do I really care? No. But the things Theo has done while in power for the Flubs, by cleaning out most of the dead weight, signing low cost talent so they can at least compete next year, focusing on the draft and scouting, pretty much everything he has said he was going to do, has to be respected.

The Flubs have an excellent farm system now after being very barren of skill and have the second pick in a draft that has the best player of last years draft, Appel, suddenly right there for the Flubs to grab.

Things might be falling into place on the North side.
