Just yesterday a Devils fan said on the NJ's Defenseman thread that besides Larsson, Fayne was the most untouchable defenseman on their team. I don't think Grabner can reel in that fish.
Fayne and a 2nd rounder? I dont follow either team that much but it looks pretty fair to me.
We used our 2013 second rounder on Visnovsky. Plus like SLAPSHOT said, Grabner, if dealt, will not be dealt within the division. Also, I'm not sure NJD's management wants to see Fayne shutting down NJ's forwards.

His proposal would be us getting the 2nd. Either way, I don't want to trade him to NJ.

The only defensemen that are really expendable at this point are Tallinder and Volchenkov and I dont think either would be enough to get Grabner. I'd rather not add in draft picks either.

Fayne is staying in Jersey, simple as that.
Volchenkov wouldn't waive his NTC for NJ and Tallinder would not fetch Grabner as you said. No deal here.
What would it take for NJ to get Grabner, preferably based around NJ's defensemen and/or defensive prospects?
In a recent wfan interview, Wang said he think his current group can make the playoffs. His D has been revamped with Vis/Carkner/likely Donovan joing Streit/Hamonic/MacDonald and the isles are expected to give Nabokov the bulk of the starts.
Isles won't be looking for picks/prospects, for a young player who's scored 54 goals over the last 2 seasons.

Considering our forward depth and the chance of Grabner not bouncing back to his rookie season form, I would definitely consider this deal.
Our wing depth is not very good, I would think Grabner (even though he'll probably start on the 3rd line) is a big part of our wing depth. No reason to trade him.
I also don't see a reason why he can't bounce back. A lot of players have sophomore slumps. He may not be a 34 goal scorer ever again but if he scores 25-28 goals a year I'm happy.
Something around Greene and Grabner would make sense for the Isles but I doubt it would make sense for the Devils. We need defenseman.
Devils would prefer to deal Tallinder or Volchenkov.
Even then, I think Grabner's too high profile and would cost too much. I'd love to see him on the Devils, but we don't have high picks or assets with high value that we are willing to give. Only way around that is if some GM highly values a guy like Urbom or Tallinder.
We are likely going to settle for a D'Agostini, Ponikarovsky, etc. kind of player.

If we get the 2012-2013 season underway, the isles top 4 is set: Hamonic/Streit/Vis/MacDonald. With Parenteau's loss, it's unlikely they move Grabner for defense, so he'll get his chance to bounce back.

Let's worry about the 2013-2014 top 4 next summer, after we see a) does Streit sign an extension? b) was the 2012-2013 cap floor lowered, resulting in any trades for Snow?

I don't know which is more unlikely, the idea that there will be a 2012-2013 season, or the idea that our top-4 d is set. For 2012-2013 we have 2 legit top-4 D (Streit, Hamonic) and one guy hanging on at the end of his career (Visnovsky). For 2013-2014 we have *one* top-4 Dman signed, Hamonic.
Experience on the back end is IMO more important than on the wing. Personally, I think adding a proven top-4 Dman and having Ullstrom replace Grabner in the NHL lineup is better than having Grabner.
