You're right, and in the last lockout year, Bergeron (whose basically in the same position as RNH) was an alternate captain while Richards wore the C.
Canada usually gives the captaincy to the underrated but extremely valuable players. I think about Cormier, Chipchura, Richards. That's why I think Harrington will get the C. He will be leaned on a lot by Spott to shutdown the top players on the other teams

My team, but stupid Canada. There is not way J.C. Lipon should get an invite over Smith. Actually I think Sherman slept with Hockey Canada director's wife, because damn Avs prospects get no love.

Huberdeau - Nugent-Hopkins - Strome
Monahan - Scheifele - Rattie
Jenner - MacKinnon - Drouin
Danault - McNeill - Wilson
Sissons
Ritchie

Harrington - Hamilton
Reinhart - Rielly
Sproul - Murphy
Dumba
Wotherspoon (best darkhorse)

Brossoit
Subban

It's a good thing you don't need much of a brain to be a banger on the 4th line.

I was wondering whether he was going to get a chance. Lipon had been out in front all season and he did get an invite. It's funny how under the radar these guys are considering they are draft eligibles that are behind only Ryan Strome in CHL scoring.

this is going to be a very competitive camp, but for only those last 3-4 fowards and last 2-3 D.
the top 10 forwards and 4 D are already picked.
Do you want muscle, versatility or speed. Pick two.

Don't think he had much of a chance this year.

He probably wasn't going to make the team at all, but my beef is selecting Lipon over Smith.

Drouin will be excellent but he isn't 1st line material this year.

I see hudon as a lock for bottom 6, Danault too.

lol Beauvillier
Danault would be just fine instead of Beauvillier, sure... maybe even better for the "4th line", I'll readily admit. I've seen enough of all of these guys to know that Beauvillier is almost criminally underrated, though. I put him on the 4th line for his engine as much as anything else. I'd rather have either one (Danault/Beauvillier) in that role instead of Hudon, and I'm a Habs fan. If I wanted to load up on another largely offensive weapon, I probably would have penciled in someone else, but Beauvillier has looked good all year, and was one of the better bottom line Q players against the Russians. Basically, I think Hudon is overrated - very overrated.

edit: Just had a chance to look at the invite list, and lo and behold, there's Beauvillier's name, genius.

Lipon can do things Smith cannot. Smith isn't going to be a top 6 guy on this team. The question is do you want him on your bottom 6? Probably not. Especially if you can get a guy like Lipon who can skate, hit and has some offense to him on your bottom 6.

Well it's your opinion.

I've seen hudon play about 100 games in 3 years and I really don't think he is overrated.

I think he was underrated prior to this summer.

Better talented of the two? Smith by far.
Better as a role player? Lipon by far.

Alright thanks I can see now why Canada chose him. But why is it so hard for Canada to invite Smith, though?

I hope that he has a great camp, and a great WJC, but let's not get carried away, when the group has incredible quality at all positions.

I think Rielly will do very well, but I see Drouin and Mackinnon as being underagers, attempting to prove them belong putting on a show.

Beauvillier has amazing speed but no hockey sense at all.

in order to play vs the best in the worlds you need to be able to read the play.

Congrats to Corrado. It's been four years since a Canuck has made the WJC for Canada, so this is encouraging news. He's got a ways to go still.

Good point. More or less entitled because his coach is also the coach of the team.

It looks like they valued guys with good skating ability above all else. I am guessing that is why guys like Pulock and Lowry did not get an invite. Although why you wouldn't invite Pulock to camp because he will more than likely be a big part of your team the following year is beyond me

I don't know why of all the players that you could lash out at over Colin Smith not getting selected, you would pick Lipon. Clearly the two players should have gotten an invite to play together and see if they could carry that chemistry forward into camp. Whatever the case, it wasn't Lipon who took Smith's spot, it was someone else. Oh well, there's always next year.
