Ok, Now my hope is that the Red Sox takes it's time rebuilding. I have the Jays leading the division, Yankees second, O's 3rd and then the Rays. The Sox should be in the basement for 2 yrs then go for the division.

Weird. I was talking to my friend/sox fan last week about how Napoli would be a good, stable signing for Boston right now.

I wanted to see the guy land back with the Angels, but I think this is a great deal and a great fit. Thought a guy like Napoli would go for more years, but it seems like a good fit for player and club.

I honestly haven't seen Napoli play much, but that seems like an awful lot of money for him.

This is only a precursor to trading for Giancarlo

He can play both C and 1b, neither great. But, if he hits like he did in 2011, he's worth that contract.

What the Red Sox look like now.

Jacoby Ellsbury CF (L)
Dustin Pedroia 2B (R)
Will Middlebrooks 3B (R)
David Ortiz DH (L)
Mike Napoli 1B (R)
Jonny Gomez LF (R)
Lavarnway C (R)
Ryan Kalish RF (L)
Jose Iglesias SS (R)

Still weak. Now the rumors on twitter is the Sox are after Swisher for RF. Even then the Sox need Starting Pitching. Saltalamachia and cash for TB starting pitching?

the red sox signed david ross because they realized that saltalamacchia was pretty replaceable.

Why Sox likes so much Lawarnway? He screams 'minor league player' to me. Pretty weak arm for catcher.

Yeah, if Boston gets 2011 Napoli then it's a great deal. If they get 2012 Napoli, not so much.

Because of the need for Catchers on the market the Sox will trade Salty. They love Lavarnway and Ross will be the defensive catcher and thank God with the speed the Jays have. The Yankees are falling, most think the O's were a fluke, and the Ray could be great if they don't trade a starting pitcher and sign Hamilton.

Salty for Gavin Floyd seems good trade for both teams.

A signing that makes the Red Sox better.

A couple more signings just might bring the Red Sox out of the cellar and put the Jays back there. You just cant count out the Red Sox who have one of the best farm systems in baseball and an unlimited amount of money.

Ross and Napoli isnt a bad catching combo. a definite upgrade defensively over last year.

Salty seems like another all or nothing guy offensively.

Sox lineup already has 2 massive blackholes offensively (Dunn + Beckham) and a void at 3B

Not sure how I would feel about acquiring him

Also how is his D? If he is terrible then we can probably just have Flower play C for alot cheaper

The AL East is going to be one of the tough divisions in baseball, but the Jays will not be a cellar dweller. Way too much speed, power, and offense. Last year, God came and smited their pitching staff. They were calling up pitchers from Double A to start major league games. Right now, the Jays have, on paper, twice as many HRs and RBI's as the Red Sox and 3 times as many SBs. I'm a Red Sox fan and I know the Jays could be frightening if set up right and they have the pieces to be a strong team. Pitching wise they will have Johnson, Morrow, Buehrle, and they will get back Drabek and Hutchinson midseason. What could be interesting is the Jays could have excess starting pitching and catching to trade at the trade deadline.

We fall in line with our thinking but frankly, the AL East could be interesting. We could see the Sox and Yankees at the bottom of the division.

He sucks behind the plate, but will Ross and Lavarnway be able to provide anything close to 25 hr's and a .742 ops?

Honestly, Napoli is probably better off at 1b. If a ball gets behind him at Fenway, it'll just bounce right back to him.

Good move, but Sox are still the worst team in the AL East. They're going to need a lot more to contend

Its weird that you suggest the Jays being back there, yet haven't finished last in the AL East since 2004, the only time in the past 10 years they've done so. Only 3 times in the last 30 years have they finished last in the AL East, the toughest division in baseball, so I'm not quite sure what you're talking about?

Oh wait, I didn't realize it was Martini posting. That explains a lot.

Good move for the Red Sox. With their depth behind the plate they'll ensure Napoli never has to catch either.. Not that he's much good anywhere in the field, but he's acceptable at 1B. I'm just curious to see which Mike Napoli shows up in Boston. One is pretty good, the other seems pretty average.

They were smart to grab Ross early on too. A lot of teams still need a catcher, and the price for one via trade seems to be going up daily. Some teams may have possibly signed him to catch.

ross's career ops is .769.

lavarnway only has one way to go from where he's at. he needs to hit. he's 25 and not exactly well known as a defensive catcher either.

i think a ross/lavarnway/napoli platoon is fine.
