Believe me, I've had this thought once or twice too. I'm trying not to be cynical, but that does make sense unfortunately. The guy did say he had 'multiple' sources though.

Because as reporters, it is just as much their job to debunk rumors if they aren't buying it. The difference between me and you and a reporter is that my phone and your phone aren't blowing up with people looking for someone they trust to tell them whether or not the rumor is true. If a reporter sincerely doesn't believe something is true, they'd make it known in part to stop everyone from asking them about it. Just my opinion, but I do think that if they had refutable evidence against this, we'd know about it. Even most reporters would say they were skeptical if they were skeptical.

Of course, they could all just be sleeping.

CBS Boston definitely not owned by Jeremy Jacobs. They are the flagship station meaning they have broadcasting rights so I'm sure they have some influence.

Jacobs owns a portion of NESN with the Red Sox

If Burton actually was the first to report the Kessel and Thomas stories, along with his reputation around Boston, I bet theres something there.

Denis Potvin randomly breaking the Kovalchuk trade to NJ was another one that came out of left field.

It's promising to hear that this guy has some credibility with past stories. I really hope he's right.

exactly. im sure mckenzie, lebrun, dreger, etc cell phones are going wild with texts and phone calls. it would be easier for them to just flat out let everyone know that this is nonsense right from the get-go. but no...

Jacobs owns NESN which broadcasts B's tv games
98.5 sports hub broadcasts B's games on radio
WBZ tv and 98.5 sports hub are owned by CBS
Burton works for WBZ.

A quick search on NESN showed Steve Burton used to work at NESN.

unless I hear from McKenzie or Lebrun or Dreger, I won't believe it

they've probably gotten wind of it by now but I'm sure they're doing everything they can to refute it

this guy's reputation is on the line here...

Likewise.

It seems so weird that not a single person who has been so in the know regarding CBA talks; Dan Rosen, Bobby Mac, Dreger, Lebrun, etc have not said a word, like not a single tweet, when usually they're tweeting about something. Especially Rosen, he tweets about football and other sports stuff, and nothing from him.

Where there's smoke there's fire, I suppose.

The Red Sox hold the majority ownership of NESN and the Bruins have the rest.

I'd be shocked if Burton's source is not JJ.
