You know the Leafs suck when they're protecting guys like MacArthur and Bozak, aka archetypal expansion team players.

Wasn't even a compliment. Was a backhanded insult. Whats to compliment? Burke sucks.

Ain't it the truth. Who in their right mind would protect Bozak unless they had a roster that seriously lacked any depth....Oh wait..

I would imagine that the rules would be different. This isn't 1998 anymore. The league has to much parity as it is, they'd have to increase the number of protected players.

9 forwards max? That may be fine for a team like the Leafs who have a few key guys but general lack of depth, but what about contending teams?

LA can't protect everyone with 9 forwards, and that basically assumes they don't try to protect Quick and Bernier.

I think the Hockey News has a similar exercise in this month's issue and on their website. They had Demers represent one expansion team, and Gord Stellick the other in a mock draft. If it does happen, there's bound to be lots of pre-draft deals to recoup something for unprotectable assets rather than lose them. Either way, if the Leafs protect Kadri at the expense of a guy like Mac or Kulemin then I would lose my mind.

We gladly give up Komisarik and lombardi to the new team, they also get a 100$ wal-mart card for participating in the Toronto Maple Leaf recycling program

Yeah I think an expansion team would grab lombardi and connolly assuming two teams. I think worrying about protecting the frattins and kadri's would not be an issue buying life for steckel, mcclem and brown. In both cases I could see the expansion team trying to extend them and if not, then dealing them at the deadline. Which is probably what we will do (dealing).
