Maybe what they mean by "Interesting, but not true." is that there was in fact significant progress made today, but the lockout won't end in 2 days.

i just really think its unreal that we have not heard from any of the main NHL reporters. very strange to me. they know that this news is circulating and it is their job to dead the rumors if that what they are. the only reason they would remain quiet is if it has legs....no?

Well I hope he's right. And I'm sure Burton has some well placed sources high up in the Bruins ownership. And since Jeremy Jacobs is the ring leader for the owners he might have some good information. I think Haggerty has a better feel on the NHL in general though.

Either way, I hope Burton is right.

Heh, the NHL is so insignificant to the NFL it would be like you booking a ticket to Africa to stomp on an ant hill at the top of Kilimanjaro...

except that Haggs cant call Jacobs on the phone and get an update on a secret meeting and potential resolution

Roachie needs a new do and someone needs to feed Breer. Levin Reid sounds like Michael Clark Duncan.

L-R: Steve Burton, Bert Breer (NFL insider), Dan Roache (Red Sox insider), Levin Reid ( well respected, well rounded reporter)

How is that a small rumor? secret meetings with 'significant progress' are a huge reason to get optimistic and should be confirmed or denied
Instead of blocking out the qualifiers, focus on them. It will help when listening to politicians and lawyers too.

TSN sports centre was just on and all it had was Dreger and Mckenzie gossiping like high school girls about what might happen in the meeting. Nothing else.

Pretty sure thats a replay from before the Burton report.

If the TSN crew is reporting lockout news at midnight, they're only doing it live if Bettman is holding a press conference announcing a deal is done.

I have no idea (or comment on) if these rumors are true or whatever. I'm just commenting on who Steve is.

Ah, well there goes my optimism.

EDIT: Unless that is a replay from before the report.

OK, listening to the video of Burton again. He says significant progress was made to salvage the hockey season and it is possible an announcement could be made tomorrow or Wednesday.

That is a pretty open ended statement. An announcement that progress was made? An announcement that they did indeed meet? Or, an announcement that an agreement on a new CBA has been reached?

Sorry for maybe reading too much into this but I can't help myself.

Yeah, the TSN insiders stuff on SC was filmed at or around 6 PM before this report.

not exactly sure what you mean.
my point is when any semi-credible guy says a secret meeting was held with significant progress being made, a big time reporter needs to confirm or deny that report, not stay in the dark for 5 hours+. That's why it's very interesting.

that is the great Mike Reiss- Breer is pretty solid also but not in picture

If this plays out true this is so hilarious ...I mean I get how this could happen knowing the parties invovled; I'm sure everyone in that room went about it like it was Dumbledore's Army secret meeting but Jacobs (not surprised that if he could be reached he'd say something, and not surprised Burton could get ahold of him if he really tried)

I just hope by this weekend we are told schedules will be posted

You are correct.

I remember it well - it broke during the TB/BOS series, I believe it was game 3 and TSN was broadcasting it. Dreger came on during an intermission and threw cold water on it.

Bettman was at that game in TB and TSN showed him with his glasses on looking at his phone and bobbing his head in disapproval as he was probably reading Brunet's report.
