I don't agree with most of what this guy is saying. However, I do believe he will be overpaid given his performance this last season. I think he is overrated on this forum. I would love to see him improve physically and be a bigger presense out on the ice. Sure he had some awesome games, but he wasn't as consistance as I would like the Kings Captain to be. That is all. This is only my opinion.

I'd take the hulking Swede on my team anyday. Lidstrom-Nortstrom wouldn't look too shabby in my opinion.

A couple of things to add to some great responses to our NY friend.

I think a prime quality for Norstrom is his reliability. Coaches love a player where they know what they are going to get each game. This guy epitomises that quality. I don't think I can remember him ever taking a game off or floating around. He is also the sort of player that will make the others out there more effective. he will allow other players to do their jobs by the simple fact that he can be trusted to do his.

My concern about him is that, while I believe him to be a good leader, I'm not sure he is a good captain. The seeming fact that the dressing-room splintered into different factions last year should have been his responsibility. he seems very quiet and maybe we needed last year a more assertive captain.

Well than if this is a young fan...great, but it seems that he/she should make it somewhat clear before he/she decides to start a thread on bashing Norstroms play and backing it up with thing that are not entirely true.

Seriously, is it that hard to figure out that it's Norstrom, not Nordstrom, if you watch and go to alot of Kings games? Brian Hayward, is that you??

This intelligent thread has made me see the light!

Corvo = God!!!

OK, since Corvo is God, we'll now trade him for Lundqvist. Surely, you wouldn't reject God, would you?

As a resident Corvo apologist for the better part of the year, I can honestly say that Matty Norstrom is twice the defenceman Joe Corvo is. And those in this thread who have watched every single Kings game this year would agree 99.9999% percent.

Don't look at +/- and goal totals to arrive at your decision, young L=V. From 86-89 Jimmy Carson had as many or more goals as Mark Messier - but there isn't a human who'd want Carson on their team over Messier.

I do not equate Norstrom w/ Messier - the point is that stats cannot be the only element used to determine a player's value.

The overwhelming response to your original thread question is "yes". Additionally, he's the best defenceman on the Kings and has been for several years.

He is a good player, he is over-paid, he is a warrior, I question his leadership abilities. What kind of leader fails to get his team to the playoffs consistently? I don't think you can qualify anybody as a leader if they don't do what they are supposed to do. When he has made it to the playoffs his numbers have been downright awful meaning he steps down when the time comes for him to lead on the ice not off. Personally, I deal him for close to whatever I can get now. He is older, the Kings roster is far from being a contender and his salary kills the chances of signing of a guy like Chara. Norstrom was at 1 time looked at as a building block but those days are long gone, he should now be used to once again re-build the Kings roster by acquiring younger, cheaper players.

Agreed with everything in bold. If he were to be moved at some point, it would preferably be for younger defensemen or defensive prospects as the Kings are woefully short on those.

Matty's a warrior. Probably overpaid with the new contract. But he's solid.

This poll is stupid. What's even more stupid is the fact that some people actually voted 'no'. Mattius Norstrom is no good? What the heck is wrong with you.

I am pretty sure that most of the 'no' votes are from non-Kings fans.....and they just don't like Matti for some reason.
