It's exciting, we haven't really had a good amount of Flames prospects making WJC rosters in a while.
Canada
Wotherspoon
Brossoit
USA
Gaudreau
Sieloff
Gillies
Finland
Granlund
I for one, am really quite happy that both Gillies and Brossoit got invites.
Not that the Flames have problems in the goaltending depth, but it's always nice to have more.
Here's hoping all these young guys make their respective rosters!
I know i told you guys i would be giving you periodic updates on the Friars. Unfortunately all of my club hockeyg ames have been in conflict with their games. HOWEVER, I will be going to the game on friday vs BC which i am very excited about. Will certainly let you know my thoughts

I heard Janowski might have received a minor hip injury and might not play unfortunately. Hopefully he does though, always fun reading some opinions from people that have actually watched him.
not sure if this has been asked yet but team USA is listing Gaudreau's height at 5'9" is he still growing? as he was shortest player taken in his draft year I thought he would be around 5'7" still.
It would make sense as his weight is still very low listed at 150lbs
Hey Wally, is there any way for someone in Calgary to catch this BC vs Providence game?
Cheers.
Hey buddy, I'm not sure? You could google some livestreams and see what comes up? I purchased a BC pass for 5.95 per month... It streams half the games... So there is always that option if all else fails. Best of luck! Heres hoping for a high-scoring game and lots of points for Both Jankowski and Gaudreau... (and Arnold..... and Gillies has the night off) haha

I've said he's more the size of somebody like Cammalleri now. Not an average size player by any means, but he's not as small as someone like Gerbe.
I'm pretty sure Rocco Grimaldi is an inch or two shorter, who was drafted in the same year.
Gillies named to USA World Jr. roster By Nathan Fournier Published: 5th December 2012
Quote:
PORTLAND – Jon Gillies shook off the cobwebs from a slightly disappointing outing at this summer’s World Junior Evaluation camp for USA Hockey with a strong start to his freshmen season at Providence College.
He will now be representing his country as one of the three goaltenders on the roster announced on Tuesday.
“This summer I didn’t think I played to what my numbers said,” said Gillies. “It was a tough week of puck luck, but it’s definitely nice to come out of there and start my freshmen year off well. My teammates have been great in front of me.”
I know backlund isn't really a prospect anymore but he has 24 points in 14 games in Allsvenskan. He is 2nd in points and first in points per game ahead of Read, Hagelin, Berglund, Kopitar, Johansson etc.
Update Backlund still leads the league in PPG with 27 points in 19 games but the combination of Bobby Ryan and Anze Kopitar are quickly catching him.
Hey, you guys still keeping tabs on Henrik Bjorklund? This guy is doing really well in the Allsvenskan this year at over a PPG. Second in the league in points with 30 in 28.

He was not qualified. At this point you would hope/expect a drafted prospect to have made strides to becoming an impact player in the SEL, and not the Allsvenskan.
He has great size and a respectable skill level, so I suppose you can't rule him out at this point. I would not bet on it however.

The difference in quality between Allsvenskan and the SEL isn't particularly large. The bottom teams in the SEL and the upper half of AS are pretty even, I'd say. This is especially true this season with a bunch of NHL stars and superstars in Allsvenskan and hardly any in Elitserien.
Someone who scores a PPG in AS will likely do about as well in the SEL and vice versa.

That may be true to some degree but the fact remains that the Allsvenskan is a tier-2 league in Sweden.
Bjorklund is having a very productive year, there is no question. However it is now four years after being drafted and he is only now starting to put things together. I hope the best for him but the odds of him ever playing a game in the NHL are incredibly low at this point.
He should have no problem carving out a productive career in the SEL from the looks of things though.
