Will Sparks be a backup or starter for the USA junior team?

Backup, if he makes it. Gibson is they're undisputed #1 at this point.

Imo if Finn didn't get mono and had continued his impressive play he might've gotten invited.

Isn't Gibson injured though?

First off, the news that is unlikely to effect the preliminary roster announcement, but is worth watching is the health of projected starting goaltender John Gibson. The Kitchener Rangers netminder is suffering from a strained hip flexor sustained Tuesday. According to Josh Brown of the Kitchener Record, Gibson has been “shut down.” The status of his return is unknown as the Rangers have tabbed his time out as indefinite, according to a source close to the team.
So I guess he could miss as little as one week, or if it's as major as tearing it right off the bone it could be four to six weeks.

Update on Leivo

Leivo got rocked in a game against Niagara. Pretty sure he had a concussion, but not a serious one. He was supposedly suppose to return last night against Erie McDavid's, but that wasn't the case. Looks like he should be back any day now though.

Its been confirmed that Storlaz (sp?), a goalie Sparks was battling in the usa summer eval camp, did not get on the prelim roster. So chances have increased that Sparks get the invite to USA selection camp.

Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun said that both Biggs and Sparks will be on the prelim roster that will be announced today.

He is too old for the tournament, but he's also injured until mid-January at the very least.

So either way, he wouldn't have played.

For anyone with a good knowledge of US prospects, what are the odds that Biggs makes the roster? Is he fighting for a spot or currently penciled in?

doubtful given how well he performed in the summer tourney.

I would imagine he will be a staple on the 3rd line, and wouldnt be shocked to see him get some 2nd line time if he plays well. Is the type of player to open up space for skill guys, and if he finds chemistry doing that then he could stick on the second line.

Hes a lock. IMO. the team is only going to be cutting 2-3 forwards. He is most definitely more usefull then a handful that were invited.

Reilly

Sweden
Nilsson

USA
Biggs
Sparks

I gotta say, I'm really looking forward to seeing all these players... hopefully sparks gets some playing time, although thats doubtful.

Reilly is fairly hyped, and we all have high expectations for him, so it will be interesting to see if he meets or exceeds those expectations

Biggs plays that entertaining North American kind of game... Will be interesting to see what impact he has on the larger ice surface.

Nilsson is one I'm really excited for, because I don't know what to expect. I heard he players a steady, physical, stay at home game.... Really excited to see his game.

Any chance Biggs captains the USA again?
