At this point, why not just extend the current CBA one more year so they can salvage this season, and work on the next CBA in the meantime?
And what does that solve? Teams who lost money (or were close to it this last year) would not be better off. As the cap/floor go up, they're only increasing those losses.
When the PA is getting paid (as they would be if they extended the CBA by 1 season), what incentive do they have to give any concessions? No they wouldn't be able to strike as there would be a valid CBA, but that doesn't mean anything would get accomplished other than the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, all while the players get their guaranteed monies.

If they can't get a CBA done now during the most high pressure point on the verge of losing a season why would anyone expect them to get a CBA negotiated once the lost season threat is removed?
Better off to get through this and get their 6-10 year CBA done instead of kicking the instability can of labor negotiations forward.

I don't think it's particularly bad. In a way, the more ears in the room (up to a point), the better group recollection of what was said, their impressions of sincerity, feeling/mood, will be more accurate.

Did a brief backward search but didn't find the answer. If you're saying that there are only 6 owners present, then that's the number I'm not too content about. Why so few? If both sides want to at least give the impression that there's a truer picture being presented here, there should at least be 10-15 owners present with about 20 players. 6 owners paints a very limited picture, and you've got to know that it's deliberate, as to show that the owners are very united with very limited variations of perspective. If I were the players, I'd have asked for a greater representation of owners! Again, if it's correct that there are only 6 there.

That's my feeling. In fact, I think it is good since there will be more listeners than speakers.

There's a quite large diversity among the present owners though.
the Leafs would also be happy with a CBA where they are not responsible for most of the revenue sharing or make whole funds.
The Leafs make more profit playing under a CBA and paying RS than they ever did with no cap and no RS.
Edit: People seem to assume that it's the rich markets that don't want to share their money. There are only three guaranteed money makers in the league - RS is required by the TOP TEN teams. Ever think that maybe the issue with massively increasing RS is because there aren't enough guaranteed markets and it's the other owners who don't want to make that commitment?

Both Darren and Bob acknowledged they knew nothing about a deal getting done but would not bury Burton.
They won't bury him because the guy has built credibility though not necessarily through reporting hockey. If this were an Eklund or HockeyInsider, Dreger would have shut that down quick.
