Don't worry I am sure the players will raise their sticks to thank the fans too.

I'll be completely honest, but I'll be fine with just having NHL hockey again. Don't even need the Thank You Fans on the ice.

No amount of anger or withheld money is going to do anything. If they're going to pull more crap next time the CBA is up, they're going to do it. It's completely out of our control. I've resigned myself to this fact.

Darren dreger on 1040 saying Burton's report is not true from the people he talked to. " I can assure you no deal is in place"

" that being said he obviously has sources and my job isn't to bury a fellow reporter"

Also said the two sides are close enough to get a deal done very quickly

Err, no... it's not.

See MLB baseball after the 94-95 strike... The fans absolutely punished them. They smartened up and there has been zero shenanigans since.

I think you buried the lead there Crows...

That is the big news if he is saying that.

Sounds a lot like the Winnipeg deal last year...

Dreger saying he can assure you that no deal has been reached and saying those reports have jumped the gun. TSN will only report a deal is done once the documents have been signed.

"no deal is in place" is a lot different than "not close to a deal"

I see no big news or anything new with that quote

Hasn't everyone been saying that the two sides aren't really far apart on a deal? It's been the stubborness of both sides to not 'speak the same language' that has both sides saying they're far apart.

I'm aware of that. That being said, maybe it's because we've been at this for 80 days, for the second time this decade - I don't see this cast of characters smartening up.

That has hardly been a secret.

If they can agree on the two key issues (ie. how to get to 50/50 and contracting issues), the rest of the thing is a cakewalk and pretty much figured out already.

Not sure why this would be news to anyone who's followed the process closely.

Dreger seems to be contradicting himself or his people. Burton said his sources said "yesterday's secret meeting was very productive and an announcement of an agreement could be announced Tuesday or Wednesday"

Dreger says his people say "no agreement is in place, YET, the two sides are close enough to get a deal done very quickly".

So his sources are saying they are very close, close enough to get a deal done very quickly, Burton says a deal could get done in a day or two. basically saying the same thing.

Is it just me or is Dreger trying a little too hard to discredit Burton?

A young boy enters a barber shop and the barber whispers to his customer, “This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it to you.” The barber puts a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then calls the boy over and asks, “Which do you want, son?” The boy takes the quarters and leaves. “What did I tell you?” said the barber. “That kid never learns!” Later, when the customer leaves, he sees the same young boy coming out of the ice cream store. “Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?” The boy licked his cone and replied, “Because the day I take the dollar, the game is over!”
Interesting parable coming from you. Even the kid could see it was a better idea to take the 50% and keep earning rather than choose to stop the flow of income entirely.

I like how Mac handled it on Hockey Central... he said "Anyone I've talked to says it's not true... but you absolutely have to respect him that he wouldn't make this up so someone told him SOMETHING."

Dreger, who has been nothing more than a mouthpiece, has no business trying to "discredit" anyone.

It's like China lecturing the US on human rights.

That account of Dreger's interview doesn't appear that way to me.

Or better to take 53 percent rather than 52.5 percent instead of killing the league and getting nothing.
