Seems like Atkinson is doing pretty darn well in Springfield -- just a question: why is he so low in the scrolling list of prospects above?
I know Murray, Savard, and Erixon are pretty highly touted, but do you still think Tynan, Calvert, and Dansk would slot ahead of him?
If the NHL ever gets their **** together, will he be up to start again?
The ticker is just one writers opinion. When we did prospect polls, he got voted 2nd.
Personally, I'd put him 3rd. The only guy who's clearly ahead of him is Murray and I think Erixon slightly edges him out. Savard, Jenner and Dansk are close behind, with Tynan and Calvert clearly behind him.
And most people would be quite surprised if Atkinson isn't in the Jackets lineup for the next game they play, whenever the hell that is.

Reason: Forgot Jenner

It's based on the HF rankings, which grades every player based on a 1-10 scale, followed up by a letter ranking (A being absolutely sure to reach their highest peak, B being a safe bet, C being so-so, etc).
I think that while Atkinson's upside is higher than a few of those players, he is more of a longshot than they are - due more to the fact that some of those guys provide more tangibles, and less to Cam's abilities.
It it were me:
Ryan Murray, Tim Erixon, Oskar Dansk, Cam Atkinson, Boone Jenner ... this would be our top 5, in this order.
All I know is that CBJ brass is confident enough in him that they said he's playing at least 2nd line in the NHL or not at all because that's where they want/expect him to be.
I think that Atkinson is about as close to a 'sure thing' that we've had when it comes to prospects in a long time. Maybe Johan and Voracek but they dont have quite the scoring punch that Cam brings. The NCAA route really helped him. Just imagine if Filatov played hockey the same way....

Coulda been something special. But I think the one thing Cam has that filatov didnt is heart. Cam is such a hard worker. He was on pace for a 30 goal season last year. I just hope with the new additions the Jackets can really suprise some people this/next season.
I love the way the coaches have them playing. They attack the puck wherever it is, pk or full strength. With the mix of skill(well above average) and 2 way play most of the team brings along with the way the coaches are having them play I dont see how they couldnt be a favorite to go deep in the playoffs. We shoulda never gotten rid of hitch.

Cam certainly seems to enjoy his time in the AHL. Let's hope whenever the NHL gets its act together he can keep it up here. He's certainly giving us reason to hope. He got the game winning goal in tonights 4-2 win, giving the Falcons the best record in the AHL.

Reason: game ended
And they beat legendary former Jackets' Stanley Cup winning backstop (at least according to some on here) Mark Dekanich to boot.
Let's be honest, we don't know how good Dex is because he never played for us. It's fair to say that the Falcons haven't been winning solely on the talents of McIlhenny, though he's played far better then anyone dreamed.
