Not that i necessarily disagree with you but do you expect Daly to come out and say that "Yes, we are close to a deal" especially if Burton is right about them having a "secret" meeting yesterday?
It's quite possible that Jacobs is Burton's source but it's also possible that Jacobs was just feeding him hogwash. I don't know, the whole situation is confusing. I don't know what an established guy like Burton would have to gain by blurting out a false report.
That's the part I'm hung up on, it doesn't make sense for him to just report false news. If a guy like Bobby Mac or Dregger did that they would be done.
It would be fantastic. Imagine the Oilers playing meaningful games in February!
It's enough of a shock to think they could still be in it in January, let's not get ahead of ourselves and hope for being in it in February. They could be a whole month into the season by then.

Ah, but you forget. Oilers typically start strong and blow it with a massive midseason losing streak.
I'd rather have zero games than a season that starts in January. Imagine how fast that season would go.
Wow really. I completely disagree I'd much rather have a shortens season over no season at all not just because it could be good for the oilers but I miss watching hockey it would be a short season with a full playoffs
I don't get the "tainted Cup" thing. Most teams in at after 48 games are in it after 82 games. A couple of teams would make it that might not otherwise have made it in and vice versa, but once there, you still need to win 16 games.

I agree, however I think 48 games is the limit . If you have any less than that you are one winning streak from a conference title and one losing streak from a top 5 pick.
People forget that Minnesota was leading the west on December 1st, 2011. (25 games played) December 31st they were in 6th (40 games played). January 15th ... you guess it, out of the playoffs in 9th place (45 games played).
Obviously i picked an extreme case, but the point is with the extra point for OTL/SOL the standings are so close that the standings can change significantly based on winning and losing a couple games in a row.

THe way I see it is every one is going to hate us when we win the cup any way. May as well add their hate on. 3 #1 picks + tainted cup = sever hatred lol.
Bring it on.
I could see it, all our young players will be ready to go, alot more than others teams.
@KatieStrangESPN: #CBA We're nearing the five-hour mark of meeting here in NY, but keep in mind large group has broken multiple times for two sides to caucus
So the meeting is crossing the 5 hour mark though there have been multiple breaks for internal talk As obviously impossible to say if they are actually getting anywhere, these meetings are super important because if they fail i don't know what's next but it won't be pretty

No kidding... if this "final push" doesn't reach any result... they are done like burnt toast... season over... likely even a total redo of the NHL/NHLPA with possible contraction of some franchises as well. I could quite easily see at least 2 teams dropping out of the league if no agreement is reached.
My gut says though that they don't meet for 5 hours without at least some constructive results though... if I had to guess I'd say they probably made some movement in both directions but aren't there yet... I'm betting both sides are bending more towards the middle but aren't quite at an agreement yet (obviously). Of course I'm probably just being overly optimistic because I'm daydreaming about the Oilers young guns all playing together... but so be it.
I'm actually optimistic that they'll reach a deal in the next few days and we'll have NHL hockey again in a couple weeks time.

Oya there are many dark roads after this round of talks most of which lead to a cancelled season let's hope it doesn't get to that.
@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Told so far talks have been substantive but too early to tell which way it will go...
substantive eh, the sides have broken off for dinner its unclear whether they'll resume talks tonght or tomorrow the Board of governors meeting is tomorrow so they'd have to work around that
