Progress is the word to use on today's talks (that are not done) But still a long way to go before a deal.

I wouldn't go that far. Both Bettman and Fehr have the mandate of getting the absolute best deal possible. They've both have done their best to accomplish this. However the players and the owners can look at something without their ego/pride getting in the way and say... you know what... this probably will be the best deal possible... IF we want to play this year, and give a tad more than Bettman/Fehr.

Of course whatever they think they've hashed out (say league drops all contractual issues other than 5 yr limit, but pays 330m in make whole), would still be subject to a vote/discussion with their membership - which could easily sink this just as fast as it started.

But until someone comes out and tells us what's going on, we're all just guessing.

btw have they locked Jacobs in a closet? You knew he had to be there just to combat the meme that he was standing in the way of a deal.

What's important to remember is that these players can't represent the union. I wouldn't be surprised if the owners worked them over hardcore and got them seeing their way, but now it comes down to whatever union leadership decides to do with these guys. If these guys shut up and we hear about how we're back at square one after this, it wouldn't surprise me.

According to the atricle below on TSN updated at 9:55 it doesn't say that they have ended so I assume they're still going. It does say that Bettman came in with Daly, Shannahan and a lawyer though.

Jacobs isn't a fool, he understands that the first 2 months of the season were a tool that the owners could use to squeeze the most out of the PA until actual negotiations began. Bringing Burkle and Tanembaum into the meetings seems to show that the owners are finally ready to negotiate in good faith while gaining massively on make whole and revenue split.

Well look at that. Cut out Bettman and Fehr and you have some progress. Just goes to show how counterproductive those two have been throughout this whole process.

Steve Fehr was in the room all along, so were the leading hard-line players. The players didn't turn around and agree to a 40-60 HRR split because of the owners' silver tongues. That pulling the wool over their eyes viewpoint is so ridiculously overrated.

For the first time. Bill Daly and Steve Fehr are talking to the media together

That seems significant

Don't buy into the hype, it's rarely that simple. Both Fehr and Bettman are very intelligent, they shouldn't be taken lightly. This is likely part of their plan.

I don't think anybody's pulling the wool over anyone's eyes, but it's always been clear that the players are losing more money in the cancelling of games than they're fighting for. And I'm not sure someone has necessarily made this clear to them.

Steve Fehr says it was a constructive day in some ways best day they've had. Daly says appreciate efforts of the players. Will meet tomorrow

I may be getting ahead of myself a tad here. But could it really be true that Steve Burton!? may have gotten this one right in the end? Who in the world is this guys source I wonder. These negotiations have to be some of the strangest I've seen. The most progress made without the commissioner of the league and the head of the PA in the room, a meeting of the minds between the league owners and the players themselves, new owners brought in near the end with a fresh voice, and STEVE BURTON potentially out-scooping every other NHL reporter out there. Strange indeed.

BizNasty isn't the sharpest tool in the shed...he also seems like he's too busy drinking and updating his Twitter/Instagram profiles than paying attention to the negotiations (not a criticism, btw- he has a baller life).

Anyone else feel like they're watching a segment from Saw?

"Want to play a game?"

then the more time passes, the more diabolical things get...
