Tallon said at several points that they want Markstrom to get as much work as possible. To get into a rhythm, he needs to be playing 60+ games. So whether he struggles at all or not, I think the mandate is to keep riding Markstrom.
Oh how unfair life can be to those that have put in their time and deserve a chance at something they have been practicing since childhood! I know DGM is in his early 30's, but I also thought that he, too, was fighting for a spot on the Panthers being on a 2 way contract. I would LOVE to see this guy get his shot! He can't do worse than Tordjman during the Yote's years. Makes me sad :'(
Markstrom is just playing fantastic. I'd say his development is right on schedule. Sorry, critics and to all those Canuck fans that were still hoping for a desperate trade by the Panthers for Luongo.
Markstrom with the shutout. The big Swede is coming on strong.
Why is it that all of the Panthers big time goalies stink at the beginning of the year. Luongo and Vokoun were both notorious slow starters. Glad he seems to be out of his funk.
God, Markstrom has really come along since the last time I saw him.
I've definitely noticed, starting aobut 4-5 games ago.. He's started to look WAY bigger in net. Looks unbeatable.. I definitely thought at the beginning of the season that he looked like he had holes, and seemed to not look athletic while shots werent being attempted on him. But, complete opposite now.. He looks really good.
In the season plus I have had the pleasure of watching Markstrom, his physical tools have never been a question. He is huge and he is unfairly quick. He is quicker than most goalies much smaller than him. He goes side to side better than just about anyone in the league.
His issue has been consistency and focus. He will make 3 or 4 highlight reel saves, then let in a shot from the sideboards. He is playing with crazy confidence right now, which if you've ever talked to the kid, he does NOT lack. There are some that don't like his attitude around here, but IMO it's the only attitude a #1 goalie should have.
Love his game, love his cockiness. This kid is the real deal.
In other news, the Rampage have signed NHL vet Jon Sim to a PTO. He will be joining the team on Friday and is expected to play Saturday night vs. OKC.

Great post.
On a side note... Simmer! Loved Jon Sim as a Panther.. Talk about a streaky goalscorer
