Can someone clarify, I thought I read Fehr would snag 8 mill if a deal gets done. If it`s the players who sat with the owners and finally hammered out an agreement, does he get his full amount?? If so, and I were a player, I`d be livid.

This should have been done from day 1, owners and their "staff" sit down, and hammer out an agreement.

The report was that if the players accepted an agreement that Fehr recommended voting against, that the NHLPA would owe him $8 million.

What's Bettman's salary again?

Two guys getting big dough to let others do their job.

If you are referring to me our friendship is actually over. In real life.

Was it racist when I called Meterperel a dope in 40 ways?

Do I think Tanguay is a moron because he is Latino?

How about Butch Stearns?

Honest to ****ing god.

Same for Butch Stearns. Stearns is actually dumber than Burton.

I actually hope Burton's report is right, I hope he is well-connected. Has nothing to do with his "insider-ness."

Wait, what?

That means it's in Fehr's best interest to hold out for a settlement that the owners would never agree to.

He should just vote against every offer, sit back, let the players finally ignore him and sign a deal, and collect a cool $8 mil.

If this is true, it might be as dumb as you can get.

I'm really missing Paul Kelly right now.

Not unlike what JJ would love Bettman to do to collect his 8 mil. . .

Really? Not even close to the same thing. Bettman at least has to work all season for his. Fehr would just need to keep saying "nope" in order to collect his if that were true. I honestly can't see the players ever agreeing to do that, but then again, who knows.

I'm pretty sure that Fehr laughed this report off as ridiculous. Will have to find the article but I think he claimed the $8m wasn't true and it was another attempt by the league to discredit him.

Fantastic. Turn the season into a death march. Stanley Cup won thru atrition. Training staffs will be working round the clock trying to keep players in the lineup.

I'm really not trying to be a jerk, but when Burton came out with his report, didn't you tweet "Burton should stick to football"? You've been leading the charge against those who are trying to discredit him, while you did the same thing at first. What's with the hypocracy?

For the record, I agree that Burton shouldn't be shot down out of the gate, and I disagree with those that think he's an idiot. He's made it as a sportscaster in this town for years, and there's a reason for that. We don't know who he knows or what he's heard -- everyone that has predicted the end of the lockout being imminent has been wrong, why so much scrutinty focused on him?

I think this might be true.

I haven't been on this board as much as I usually would be. I am out of the country until Sat. I hope to read good news soon and will try and check in later today or tomorrow.

Steve Burton has a masters degree from Northwestern University, works with and is a board member of several charities, and is one of the nicest, most down to Earth media personalities you will ever meet.

How do I know that? I got paired up with him while playing a Sunday round of golf at Sandy Burr in Wayland like 4 years ago when I had just graduated college. He is an incredibly well spoken, humble, and gracious guy. He even offered to buy beers at the turn. He also took down my number and called me like a month later asking if I could fill in as an emergency replacement at a charity golf event. Unfortunately I had to work that day, but I wanted to drop in here and give my $0.02 on a guy who a lot of people seemingly know absolutely nothing about.
