Your team is young and not as defensively sound as a more seasoned line-up. That's cool. I can remember back to a team thirty years ago that did okay with an elite offense that didn't backcheck. They had a guy named Fuhr in net. He were a wizard at stopping breakaways. He saw them all the time, every game.
Is Dubnyk like Fuhr? Does he relish the breakaway? Most goalies are good at one on ones nowadays because of this league's tie break procedure. Discount that, it's a joke and not related to hockey. I am talking about goaltending in gameplay circumstances. Is Dubnyk the right guy for the Oilers at this juncture?
If the management of the Oilers think they need a veteran goalie with leadership ability to calm the kids and steady the back-end, who is a better option than Luongo? Luongo has book on the NW division and fits the criteria.
I would personally welcome a strong Oilers team and I think this would do some good. This, even with no return discussed. Gillis has bungled the **** out of the Luongo sitch and will not get much back from anybody.
I have no doubt they would like him back but if there is no season he will very well end up as a UFA. And if the cap is low 60M's how do they afford him given that they have $54M committed on 14 contracts? Even if they got rid of Boyle, it would still mean about $14M to sign 10 players.

They'd probably all cost too much; particularly Elliott, who I wouldn't spend a dime on before seeing him put up those numbers on a team that isn't using Hitchcock's playbook.

I'd stay away from Elliott, he's been terrible up until last season clearly showing that he's a product of Hitchcocks defensive system. Just like when Steve Mason got his Calder Trophy under Hitchcock, now he's a fringe NHL goalie. Phoenix is running the same operation earning Bryzgalov that $50M contract and turning Mike Smith from an average backup goalie to a top 5.

This is a numbers game though. We are looking at a cap that could well be in the $62-64M range. The Sharks already have $54.3M committed next year on 14 contracts. Clowe makes $4M right now and would be one of the better UFA's. Re-up Clowe at even $4M and you have about $4-5M left to sign 8 players including Jason Demers. Something has to give.
Even if they roll back cap hits you would still only have about $10M to sign 8 guys.

I agree on Elliott. Stewart will be an interesting one, he's not exactly in the good books in STL, but at the same time if he goes to the market he isn't a cheap option. Teams like to think that guys like him are hidden gems and will give him a 2nd shot to redeem himself.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that you werent around our board a month ago when all the talk about Luigi going to Edmonton was happening. It wasnt pretty, to say the least, but i'll bring you up to speed....WE DONT WANT HIM!! Do not want that contract, we have our own problems with a certain albatross contract that we are just about done with and now we are supposed to just welcome another (and FAR WORSE one) onto the team? No thanks. And thats not even mentioning his age and the fact that he is on the decline and cant handle playing in a Canadian market because of the pressure that goes along with it.

I was thinking about this scenario... say the entire season is cancelled and we end up with a draft lottery like 05. Say we get the 15th ish pick and a team like Carolina (with two stud centers already) holds the 1st pick. Would you deal Yakupov, MPS and our pick to get McKinnon? It would give us a 1-2 punch down the middle eerily similar to Sakic-Forsberg.
Yakupov isn't ready to flog yet. Sell when the value is highest. give him a year or two (before the big contract, don't see this guy settling for Eberle / Hall $) to get a pile of points with our best then trade for whatever we need. MPS should go regardless.

Gives them 20M to spend on players that could help to take them to a cup, as well as his 5.33M cap hit. Also your above post reminded me, that right now any bought out player needs to go through waivers first and if the new CBA works the same I don't see Luongo making it past a few teams.

Pretty sure the poll is doing the speaking for me bud...65% dont want him, which makes it a majority like you said, so i'm not sure what part of "we" your not understanding.
Not to mention we already have 7.25 mill tied up in goalies, now add in the Luosers contract...we would have to get rid of both our goalies in order to keep him, and who in their right mind would trade for either Khabby or Dooby (especially since he's making 3.5 for the next 2 yrs and would be a backup on any other team in the league)?
If the Oilers trade for Lulu, i'll stop watching hockey, i really dont feel like listening to nuck fans laugh at us for the next decade for taking that god-awful contract off their hands for them. His contract actually makes Horcoff's look like a bargain (and thats not easy to do). I also dont want a goalie that spends the majority of the game flopping around on his belly like a fish outta water, or a guy that cant handle the pressure in the playoffs in a Canadian market, not to mention he is on the wrong side of the hill, as far as goalies being in their prime goes that is.
Why do you think he is being run out of Vancity even though their backup isnt a proven starter yet? Why do you think they couldnt get a deal done before the lockout started? They had plenty of time to get a deal done, but had no takers, even teams that need a starter wouldnt touch that contract with a 10 foot pole even if they were sending a cap dump back. That should tell you something right there. Every team in the league knows that contract is an anchor if they trade for it, even Van knows its a s****y contract. The only contract that is worse in the league is DiPietro's IMO. Why would you want to help Van get out from underneath that albatross? They signed him until the end of time, they should have to deal with the consequences of that decision, not us.
