Jagr is 8th all time in scoring but who else?

Realistically, I'm thinking Malkin can do it if he stays healthy. Crosby too if his concussions are behind him.

Selanne. By the time he retires, he will have passed Gretzky.

Sergei Fedorov. He's been reading this board as is now pissed off. So he's going to come back to Detroit and start putting up Hart/Selke seasons again, out of spite mostly.

Also, Peter Forsberg. He didn't really retire; they're fitting him with a prosthetic foot for his next comeback.

And Eric Lindros. He'll be wearing an extra helmet and will look like a bobblehead, but he'll put up 90-100 point seasons and plow through the opposition.

Imagine he played until he was 48 like Chelios

Sad thing is, he still wouldn't be close

Yzerman, Lemieux, and Sakic all could have easily been #2 had they played that long.

But Lemieux is the only one who would have even had any kind of hope at #1.

Ovechkin will as long as the NHL stops canceling seasons. Guy's a tank. He'll play 82 games every year till he's 40 and remain a very productive player.

What amazes me is that Jagr could have realistically been 2nd in all-time points without the lockout and KHL stint.

It's more difficult to score today and I don't know if any current players will make it.

If it wasn't for the lockouts, Iginla would have had an outside chance.

Would need 1591 points to enter top-10:

Can only see 4 players having any shot at it...

Ovechkin (age 27) needs 912 points. If he plays until 40, he'd have to average 70 points per season.
Crosby (age 25) needs 982 points. If he plays until 40, he'd have to average 65 points per season.
Malkin (age 26) needs 1,064 points. If he plays until 40, he'd have to average 76 points per season.
Stamkos (age 22) needs 1,262 points. If he plays until 40, he'd have to average 70 points per season.

I think Crosby and maybe Stamkos will do it.

Malkin realistically. Ovechkin has stopped caring and Crosby is headed to injurytown. Stamkos is an outside shot.

Selanne was 23 when he played his rookie season. Add in all the injuries and this being his 3rd lockout, he missed out on a lot of NHL hockey. Not saying he'd be close, but there would be a lot more points than he currently has.

Selanne is 42 now. He needs only 184 points to 10th place. That's about 3 60p seasons, easy!

Only one with a chance is Crosby.

And that's only if he remains healthy.

Not sure if serious....

I love Iggy as much as the next person, but there's no way in hell Iginla cracks top 10 in scoring all time if the last 2 lockouts don't happen.

what about ovechkin? i understand the flaws against him, but if he were to be traded to a team where he's not the main guy and the pressure is off of him, maybe we see him return to the old ovi?

Well, if he ended up with his career average in those two missed seasons (74 pts / 82 games) he'd have 1221 points right now.

Needing 1591, he'd need 370 more points. So he'd need 5 more seasons at his career average (no injuries).

So ya, wouldn't have happened barring unexpectedly high production during those missed years / the following years.
