My dad and I were talking yesterday when we heard Burkle going to NY that he's the guy they need. He always stays away from the limelight and has no real need for the money. He's pushing for the betterment of the game. Something some of the owners and Fehr lost along these discussions.

This will be a severe blow to #Caps and Ovi fans everywhere. Crosby's saving a season while Ovi's making big bucks in Russia is unbeatable.

If Burkle ends up sparking the end of this mess, I'm going to need Burkle's head photoshopped onto a Damian Sandow picture.

You're Welcome!

But honestly the guy is a quiet man. Just look at the ownership for the Pens. He lets Mario get the whole credit each time when it's all his money. He just seems like that type of guy.

I just can't with the Crosby thing though. Firstly you'll have posters not buying it, then if negotiations take a turn for the worse they'll blame him even more.

Burkle is key though. This is what he does for a living. He's a deal maker.

Heres Lebrun's take with Pen's angle http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/i...gs-deal-closer

I'm trying not to get my hopes up. Very excited to see Burkle and Crosby involved in talks. You can tell from his interviews that Crosby was toeing the party line because he felt obligated. IMO, inside he really wanted to be a reasonable voice for negotiations. It sounds like Burkle has the same mindset on the other side. Hopefully they can both convince the hardliners on their sides to be reasonable.

Couple that with Ovechkin's earlier comments about the league and it gives you a clear indication of his thought towards the league.

Wouldn't it be sweet if our owner and our captain saved the season. Sure it isn't all their doing, but the media is spinning it that way so far. The hate for Crosby won't go away, but my respect for him (which is already incredibly high) would grow tremendously. I hope the haters can give him the credit he deserves.

Oh and I wonder how Caps, Rangers and Flyers fans would react to a season saved by the Penguin brass hahaha.

There are already some posts on the rangers board complaining that Crosby talking with Burkle outside of the meeting would be illegal and that it should be punished.
Their hate for Crosby is bigger than their desire to get hockey back.

I think this will get done today or tomorrow. I had an interesting run in with one of the parties involved last week. I've just been optimistic all week. My business is booming and I'm almost certain hockey is coming back.

Feels good.

According to TSN, Burkle and Crosby flew in together, with the NHL giving them a pass on talking to one another as owner and player, etc. They also said Burkle changed the entire dynamic of the negotiation yesterday. And apparently Sid HAS been close to the negotiations from the start so that's a little surprising in one way, but not in others (Sid being the League Savior ™ and Closet Favorite of Philly fans everywhere).

In short, Burkle, Mario, Sid and Adams are saving hockey. The rest of the league's fans need to recognize.

We can't help it if our guys are better and more constructive / productive than their guys.

This... is without a doubt... the single dumbest thing I've ever heard about on this board. All the trolling, all the stupid **** that goes on in the playoffs between fans.

This takes the cake.

"NO TALKING! Crosby and Burkle must never talk! SID THINK HE SPECIAL¡¡11 LOCKOUT RULES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN PLAYING HOCKEY¡¡"

Whoever is saying stuff like that should be sterilized so they can't reproduce and fill the world with tard-spawn.

I couldn't agree more! If people are really being so petty as to complain about breaking some stupid rule if, by doing so, they jump start everything and help get this done so we have hockey this year? Idiots.

I will be back in Scottsdale soon @JillTurpin. I think Crosby may have saved the season. (Is there anything he can't do?) #BurtonKnew

Most likely a joke/sarcasm, but tweet has already been deleted. (Never mind, still there. I guess you have to hit "All" to see all of someone's tweets now.)

Could put Sids head in place of, Shero.

That would be the ultimate troll.

Daren Millard. Nick Kypreos. Doug MacLean. Fan590 Hockeycentral. NHL wants a deal done by Friday. Training camps open on December 14.

Aaron Ward ‏@aaronward_nhl
Reason for optimism, NHL plans to relent on player contracting issues.Player contract length still remains important to the league. #TSN

We should all use a similar .gif as an avatar when the season starts.

With: "We saved hockey" as a caption and a Penguins logo as the second layer.

If hockey does indeed return, our theme this year has to be 'You're Welcome'.
