That's awesome.

The last job I had the company was rotating about 600 office personnel around so they could renovate various buildings so IT had their hands full with the difficulties in that. Thus the internet was almost completely unmonitored, and the automatic filter caught pretty much nothing.

I generally use my phone for any at-work browsing and even then I try to hold back. I'd rather work super hard so I can get home earlier.

Odd to go to a business function and be able to see everyone you know in under 30 minutes, even with a packed event hall. Weird. :l

Meh, IT should never play the role of internet police. Sure, block obvious stuff like porn, but if you have someone who wants to surf ****** all day at work, the problem isn't that ****** isn't blocked.

In other news, I'm again wondering at my naiveté in trying to stick it out with my current employer. I'm doing my old job, I'm doing part of an old (now ex-) teammate's job, and I'm doing a chunk of my old manager's job. I've had two --- TWO --- meetings with my new manager since his appointment at the end of September and one of those was for him to threaten our contract employees.

If I go, I wanted it to be on my terms, not as a condition of not being able to handle all the many hats I'm being asked to wear simultaneously. Again, I'm questioning my choice. ****. Perhaps I'm just questioning my commitment.

I'm in the same boat.

I'm no longer doing fulfilling work. I'm doing whatever I can get done since my department went from 3 guys down to basically just me. (My boss chips in once in a while, but he runs other things too, so he can't do much.)

I've resolved myself to stick it out, and focus on refreshing some of my other skills in the meantime. However, I am still keeping my eye open for other opportunities. Hopefully if any come up, their HR will not suck like the last one.

It's the refresh that I'm stuck on -- I do NOT want to keep doing what I'm doing and yet what I know how to do is what I'm doing. My old skillset has erroded during my time doing what I'm doing now and shy of jumping over to a small firm as THE guy (which scares the hell out of me since I do not have the same level of cockiness that I once did, to be honest), that's the area I will probably wind up looking.

I want a change. Badly.

I hear you there. The stuff I know, I know like the back of my hand. However, that's a lot more narrower a set than it used to be. I'm almost considering looking for some mid-range contract work just to get my tech juices flowing again, and rekindle my passion for figuring out new stuff.

It's good timing in some ways. If things keep proceeding with the girlfriend down the track that they're on, 2015 could see her leaving Buffalo for a tenure track faculty position somewhere, and I would be going with her. I'd be 37 then, and having my ducks in a row before that time is a decent place to be.

I can go to a business function (the rare ones we hold) and see all the people I care to see in 5 minutes.

****, Beechsack, I can't plan my life with any degree of personal control for the next week let alone 3 years out. I need a relaxing hobby. I'm thinking air traffic controller.

Clock got it. And we are getting two more expansion packs for Christmas. Fun game. The shock value wears off quickly, but it's still good.

Oh, the baby is normally sound asleep by 7:30pm. Friends are over and libations are imbibed.

Seriously, with Tay being such a great sleeper, we've found not much of a change in our social life since having the tot. We've always been the host of our friends, so the only difference is now that we have to get up a tad earlier when she gets up. But last Sunday, she didn't get up until 9am. God, I love that bean.

You two have a charmed life. :p

Many of my friends dropped off the face of the earth once they had a kid. Boozing and gaming nights became a thing of the past.

Mailed the application for Fisher Rd house this morning.

My wife sent me some links to a few more houses because she really doesn't want me to rent the place across the street from the karate school if this doesn't pan out.

And a friend of mine sent me a text this morning about being happier and more energetic. It must be that obvious.

What's this game all about? I'm always looking for drunken good times. Apples to apples is getting kinda old. Also, the drunken wives in the crowd tend to get mad when the husbands don't pick their card.

I've been drinking more since I've had kids. They drive me to drink.

Seriously, job, plus two kids 5 and under, plus now pregnant wife who can't help out a lot is a lot of work. I need a couple of beers on the weekend.
