Sidney Crosby, the mythical figure who wins scoring titles and settles labor negotiations with one hand tied behind his back.
Truly amazing what the league comes up with.

If the good relations between Crosby, who is in the room, and Burkle are the reason they were able to get past the animosity, then he deserves the praise.

you seriously dont think the best player in the game, the face of the league, being directly involved in negotiations with the owner of his team on the other side, doesn't hold some water?
i think ppl here are being naive and haters for no reason.
I love when I have those realizations these days. I'll look at projected lineups and be like, when the hell did we bring Tom Pyatt back? And then just have that "duh" moment and slap myself on the forehead
Brooks said: "Matt Gilroy has signed AHL contract with Whale. Prodigal free agent D presumably will sign with Rangers when lockout ends."
I haven't seen anything else on the topic.
I believe I read that Gilroy state the Rangers and he both had interest in getting a contract done but that they could not work on anything due to the lockout. Therefore he signed an AHL deal to play.

Questionable. Might not be the best player on his team....... But I agree with you on your point.

I hate Sindy, despise The Penguins and think the NHL/NHLPA organizations Are both a bunch of happy go lucky ********. Now that being said, if any or all of those parties help get NHL hockey back onto the ice, touché, then they deserve credit for that and that is that. I love the game - not any reason to hold that against a party that gets it going again. Then again, after losing 2-1 in OT away in the Mellondome with us taking 14 penalties and 3 penalty shots and the Pens taking a lone compensation penalty while playing 5 against 3 - in the end of April to the avid applaudes of a sinister smiling Bettman sitting next to Mario in the stands waving at Sindy who waves back after scoring the OT goal while Matt Cooke has just mugged Hank in the crease - might make me feel a bit differently. But we are not there. Yet...

I haven't read that. If anyone could dig up the source for that I would greatly appreciate it!

Beyond the fact that it forces an owner to look his star player in the eye when it comes time to say, "I want to cut-back your salary," no, it really doesn't hold much water. Unless of course Crosby has some prior history with settling labor negotiations that I don't know about.
However, I fully admit that Burkle is a great guy to have in the room. He's dealt with labor negotiations in the past and he's been very committed to the Pens. He was a major part in keeping them here during the relocation issues and he's also been one of the major benefactors of the last CBA. The value of his franchise has increased by 160% since 04-05.
Could there have been some "coaching" from Burkle that advised Crosby to say X and Y to his fellow players? Sure, but I don't for a second think that Crosby ought to get the praise the media is currently dishing out.

i disagree. I think hes better than Malkin. What he's not...is healthier than Malkin. He was producing at 134 point pace/82 game season the past 2 seasons...thats pretty remarkable....Malkin led the league last year with 109 in 75, which is 119 point pace.
The insane thing is having both those guys on the same team. Sickening.

Yes, one reason I hate the Penguins more than just about any other franchise. So ridiculously lucky to have the kind of players in their history that they do. Sure they went through some tough years due to mismanagement, but they still got Lemieux and Jagr and won some cups, and then got Crosby and Malkin later on and won at least one cup.
They've had 4 of the best players to play the game in the last couple of decades on their team, it boggles the mind
At any rate, I wonder when we'll get some news on Gaborik, I have to imagine he's close to returning to full strength

Fair enough, which is why I said questionable, to me at least. I mean projections are just that, cant know for sure if there wouldnt have been a drop off at some point. Malkin did hit 109 in just 75, which is insane on its own merits nowadays.
