No it doesn't. Why would the Cubs trade 29 year old Garza+ for a 29 year old Ellsbury?

Hamilton won't come to Chicago, and we won't pay him $30 million per year.

Why wouldn't he come to Chicago? As for the 30M, who cares, it's only a 4 year deal.

Ellsbury, if healthy, is awesome. It's also one of Theo's guys. I'd rather dish out money to Ellsbury than Garza.

Why does it matter if it's one of Theo's "guys"? Three or four years from now we'll be contending and Ellsbury will be on the decline if he's even still here (FA next fall). Why would we trade Garza plus some of our limited farm pieces for a 29 year old OF? The whole point of trading Garza is to get multiple prospects/players under team control that will be able to play in a couple years.

Would rather pay Ellsbury 5/95 than Garza 5/85-90.

SOX have a 3rd baseman!!

Keppinger signs for 3 years, per Heyman.

I like Keppinger

Sure you would like a little more power from 3B spot but he is solid player ,, Sox just need a solid dependable player to man 3B

Derek Holland drawing some trade interest. He signed a really reasonable deal last March, so no idea what he would even ask for in return... Or what the Rangers would even make him available.

The Cubs are in long term rebuild mode. They aren't going to be taking on any long term money such as Hamilton on a 4 year deal. It sounds fun, but it isn't going to happen. They are going to go after non-tendered guys like Ian Stewart, not Josh Hamilton.

Yeah, I love the plan and I love trading away these one year guys for top 100 prospects. However, they are making some nice moves so far and if we end up one player away from competing for the divsion, why not. Like you have said before, the young guys coming up in a culture of losing is becoming a problem. But yeah, Hamilton would probably be more trouble than it would be worth because then they couldn't rationalize selling off the team at the trade deadline if we were remotely in it. From that standpoint, I agree we shouldn't try to win too many games.

I agree, if we were one player away than ya go for it but the Cubs aren't. The Cubs are one player away from 80 wins. I don't want them tanking and losing 100 games on purpose, but they just aren't going to spend a bunch of cash to finish 4th in the division. They probably aren't going to spend north of $100 mil until 1) they get the stadium renovated and 2) work a new TV deal with WGN in 2015.

We don't want to be the Red Sox spending 80 million on Napolino and Victorino so that we can win 80 games and finish in 4th place.

Hell, I'd pay for a pay per view type channel if the Cubs maintain this plan and intend to keep everyone together for the long haul, which I believe they do. That's saying a lot from a guy who hasn't had cable tv for about 8 months but I love the direction they are going in and will do whatever I can to "keep it continue".

Apparently Brett Jackson totally overhauled his swing this fall. If he can somehow do 80% of what Rizzo did when he changed his swing, the Cubs could have a decent team this year.

Yeah, I read that too. I'm glad he did because he was overmatched when he came up.

Well, that's great to hear... will be very interested to see how the new one works for him. The old one would have never cut it at the MLB level.
