Michael Taube opinion piece in USA today

http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...ckout/1747013/

Any one read it ? Yikes !

I don't know if it is online but his solution to the labor impasse ( or steps towards recovery as he put it) is

" Team owners should withdraw their clubs from the NHL. No teams, no league. Owners could then start up a new league with a clean slate".

Who in their right mind would consider this a reasonable solution ? The value of many teams are tied to the fact that they are in the NHL. Complete idiocy, and it wasn't even in the sport section but in the opinion page in the A section.

I've actually thought that it's players first. then the teams that make the NHL. If the NHL lost any of its most important teams to start a rival league, it could cripple them.

Why do you really need the NHL skirting antitrust law to operate a league. Go to Hockey USA and Canada, tell them to draw up basic rules, and let them play.

IMHO, a restarted hockey league would probably lose alot of the southern deadweight.

From my understanding he does not want changes in ownership simply a dissolution of the NHL. If you have the same owners, Bettman will again do their bidding and all you have accomplished is a change in the letterhead. Even the southern teams, if they saw the established teams going to a new league they would HAVE to go because if they arent associated with the worlds best players the value of those teams drops to ahl levels or lower.

This "blowing up: of the NHL does ZERO to change anything substantive unless the " have" teams collectively decide not to extend an invitation to some teams in the new league ( the deadwood). This is essentially contraction without renumeration and the deadwood teams would sue the hell out of the new league.
