there is no way the NHL is gonna lose 25% of their sponsorship money over 7 games. they'll squeeze em in.

i think ppl here are being naive and haters for no reason.
If Crosby really helped, that's great and he deserves credit. However the reports on here from the weekend essentially calling this a PR session have me skeptical that this is anything more than yet another NHL marketing stunt to prop up their golden boy.

I 2nd that. Then the refs will always call a penalty if you touch him during the game

agree 100% that if a deal is in place this week they will find a way to have 61 games to get the $$...the question is that motivation enough to get a deal done this week.

I'm a little confused by those who are saying it's a PR stunt. Do you mean this whole thing with Crosby is a PR stunt? Or all these meetings, and everything that's going on?

I mean, imagine they have a deal in place and then Bettman says "we can't sign this deal because Penguins players and ownership broke some rules that led to this deal being proposed, so it's void". Why play the bitter "oh the Pens get away with it" card when it's for the better for EVERY fan of hockey?
Who cares? Current Ranger players could have been talking for months, but they weren't allowed to. How the **** does that make sense? How come this player-owner meeting had to be approved by both sides to happen if it was already allowed? They could have just done this weeks ago.

Sorry, but that's ********.

This seems weird...I mean, maybe the players and owners agreed it would be OK for coaches to do that, but otherwise I think that at least violates some league directives about the lockout

Some tweets in the last hour:

Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_Brooksie
If/when this is settled hopefully everyone will recognize need for reasonable length camp to protect against injury even if means fewer gms

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN
Davidson: "we feel good about the information we got."

-I'm assuming that is John Davidson after BOG meeting

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN
Talk of 50/56 game sked "if" a deal

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN
Bettman said "out of respect" for the talks, which he said were going good, he wasn't saying anything. CBA talks resume this afternoon here

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN
Asked to comment, as some BOG members did today coming out of their meeting, Flyers chairman Ed Snider said, "No, sorry."

Sam Carchidi ‏@BroadStBull
RT @Real_ESPNLeBrun: Nineteen players in today's meeting. Winnik and Campoli added to mix; McDonald has left

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN
confirmed: BOG talked of 50/60 games; leaning < 60 ... guvs "feeling very positive." Another good sign: no 'drop dead' date was discussed

Yeah, I don't buy that the coaches have contacted the players. Without a CBA that's a big no-no
