Don't even bother signing him if you aren't going to do something about it.
The Bears are only going to have around 5-10M in cap space after the draft. Sure you can cut Davis, Campbell, Hester to open up a few mill here or there. Are we just going to go without a MLB next year? Are we going to go with Caleb Hanie 2.0 next year at backup QB? Are we going to go with Spencer, Rachal, etc at both guards next year? Are we going to give Garza the Kreutz treatment of using him until he's the worst center in the league?

You aren't going to significantly improve this god-awful line by spending 10+M on one guy. So we add Long for 10 million, great. It doesn't matter because we'd still have Chris ***** Spencer next to him.

You can fix 3 or 4 spots on the line for 12 million if you spend smartly and hit on a draft pick.

Gould , Cutler , Louis and Melton are the only must re-signs... At Tillman's age the Bears need to replace him thru draft and rest

Jennings shouldn't get a major contract as for most part his big play this year has ceased ,, Thus we should be weary of rewarding him big $$$

They have to come out of next years draft with 2 starters in the first two rounds.
Yep

Emery cant throw away another 1st rounder like he did in his 1st draft ,, Failure this year at draft will start making him look like Angelo

Lets not forget to factor into the probably cap implications in 2 years of the dead cap space that will result from when Bears cut McClellin after it becomes all to clear he is failure

Bears could always follow the Washington example and draft a developmental QB in round 4

Or you can bring in a vet like Grossman.. Someone who can start a few games if needed

The Bears don't have that much cap space to begin with. We have no depth at LB or CB. Even if we let guys like Urlacher and Tillman go, we don't have a cheap backup that can come in and play well at those positions. They're going to have to spend money to replace them. Also if you want any sort of quality in the middle of the line you have to pay for it.

While I like the thought of drafting a QB, we'd be better off spending that pick on OL or LB. As long as it isn't a safety though .

I'd be happy if the Bears can trade down in the 1st round and add an extra pick in the late 2nd or 3rd round.

I'm not completely opposed to spreading money out and using picks on the line but it just flat out has not worked at all so far. I think it is time for something drastic. Either way, whatever they do decide to do, it better work fairly immediately because this team is hanging on by a thread as is age wise. If it is going to take a year or two to develop the offensive line through shrewd signings and draft picks, maybe we should look at trading some of the top guys for picks and tanking for a year. I don't know, the Bears situation is a very delicate one. I'd say you have this year, next year, MAYBE the following year to get it done with this core of players but that is definitely it.

Honestly ,, Bring back Rex

We know what he brings and as a cheap 1 yr (or 2 yr) backup option the Bears wont be in bad shape

They've drafted two linemen high in the draft, Williams and Carimi. Louis was a good 6th round pick a few years back. You can draft quality linemen in the 2nd or 3rd round such as Stefen Wisniewski, who has a cap hit of 1.5m.

The Bears need to stop drafting all these god damn nickel corners (both Moores) and safeties in the middle rounds. Most good teams make a killing in the middle rounds.

Agreed, have to stop with the defensive backs and have to make the top picks count. Emery needs to hit a few home runs next draft. The wasted picks have ****ing murdered this team over the years.

Rumors going around that the Raiders are trying to bring Gruden back. I think that would be cool.

Urlacher and Hester made $18 mil this season. Jake Long made $12 mil this season. Cut those guys, sign Long, draft a MLB let Knox replace Hester.
I REALLY doubt that Hester made much more than a few million this year. Most of his contract had escalators and bonuses for receiving milestones which we all know he can no where near hitting. I dont think Hester was much of a cap hit. His base salary in 2012 was $1.646M and in 2013 it goes to $1.857M. He had $5M+ in bonuses this year (which I'm sure he didn't get) and has $12.8M in bonuses next year which he won't get either.

Not sure Hester is much of a money-saver. Urlacher on the other hand....yea his value has to be going down a bit. He's realistically getting around $9M in salary cap.

No, the really good teams hit home runs in the first 2 rounds. Look at the Packers since 2005 (1st or 2nd round picks)

Aaron Rodgers
Nick Collins
AJ Hawk
Greg Jennings
BJ Raji
Clay Matthews
James Jones
Jordy Nelson

Those are some huge impact difference makers. Have some starters from this years draft but its too early to tell how good they will be.

Jones was a 3rd round pick but yeah those are definitely impact difference makers. The Bears need a draft where they hit a homerun early and get a couple doubles or triples in the middle rounds, like the Packers, Steelers, 49ers, etc have done.

Packers drafted Bishop,Sitton, Lang, Burnett, Jones, Finley (at least before this year he was difference maker)

Steelers drafted Wallace, Sanders, Colon, Brown

49ers drafted Gore, Bowman, McDonald, Goldson

The Bears have been searching for good safeties for a long time. This year Conte and Wright have really solidified the position. Don't think you'll see them take a safety before the 6th round any time soon unless they let Wright walk in the next few years.

Urlacher
Brown
Anthony Thomas
Tillman
Briggs
Tommie Harris
Bernard Berrian

Cutler will get a raise, but not as much as you may think
Melton will get a raise for sure
Louis, not so much and only a 1 or 2 year deal
Tillman will not get a contract with THAT high Cap Hit
Jennings is quality and will get paid, but he may price himself out in 1 1/2 year thinking he can cash in.
Wright will only get a slight raise
MLB + SLB - Roach will stay, do you really think his raise will be that much?
DJ Moore is good and will stay so will Hayden. Both are cheap and give us good quality
Gould won't get a raise

you should not forget that we will bring in 2 1st round picks and 2 2nd round picks. That is 4 players. Can cut Speath, Davis, Hester to free up Cap Space.

Bears have enough Cap Space going into the future while adding a LT like Long or Clady or Albert or Bushrod. The quality those guys have over Webb is worth 9 million

Exactly, they just need to do it again. Two or three years of solid drafts can lead the franchise forward in the transition years.

The Bears have 13m in cap space for next year, and they still have to pay Melton, Urlacher (or another MLB), a backup QB, the draft class, and they have zero guards for next year.

I think that we, as a board, can agree on one thing.

This is all Stan Bowman's fault.... somehow

You can mess with the cap. For example they could tear up Tillman's deal and extend him for say 3 years with a lower cap hit.
