In fairness, though, DHF said he wanted him, and that wouldn't be any different for him on the North side of town.

For now, in a couple years, Cubs players are going to have make sure their leases extend into November.

Into November? How many games have ever been played past like November 5th in baseball history?

Someone didn't get the memo about Selig's plan for a 36 game playoff that includes every MLB team, five of the best AAA teams, and the Japanese champion.
Coming 2019.

Isn't he literally the worst player in baseball or something along those lines?

Even as a bench player, there's still a decent chance he effects your team negatively.

#Cubs to sign RF Nate Schierholtz to 1-year deal. Reports are $2.25 M plus $500,000 in incentives
Not a bad signing.

Good platoon player against righties. Reed Johnson would work against lefties.

Schierholtz is a good signing, always good to bring in a lefty bat with a little pop that can draw a walk too.
Last 3 years vs. RHP: 625 AB 18 HR 65 RBI .270 avg .334 obp .440 slg
Vs. lefties, just don't play him, he is beyond awful. The only time this guy should ever see a lefty is an injury scenerio or extra innings.
Other stats of note
*Very good pinch hitter, last 3 years: 85 AB .282/.347/.412
*Kills the Mets

Jason Grilli Close To Deal
By Luke Adams [December 6, 2012 at 8:28am CST]
THURSDAY, 8:28am: Grilli will decide between the Cubs, Blue Jays, Giants, and Pirates at 10am today, or earlier if one of the teams goes to three years on the 36-year-old, tweets Peter Gammons of MLB Network. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports says Grilli will stay in Pittsburgh if no one adds the third year.
WEDNESDAY, 4:38pm: Grilli is still wading through all the offers presented to him, Sheffield told MLB.com's Tom Singer. The Brewers haven't talked with Sheffield this week, GM Doug Melvin told reporters.
12:42pm: If Grilli is close to a deal, it's not with the Brewers, tweets Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
10:50am: Jason Grilli's agent, former MLB slugger Gary Sheffield, tells Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe (Twitter link) that he's nearing a deal for his client. However, Sheffield didn't reveal which team was closing in on Grilli.
Give him the third year, lock him up. He hasn't been used that much, only 33-59 IP per year in recent years. He just turned 36, so the deal would be for his 36, 37 and 38 year old seasons. He's been with the Pirates so most of his great work the last couple seasons has been against the Central.
