Our centers: Mike Fisher, David Legwand, Craig Smith, Colin Wilson, Paul Gaustad, Nick Spaling.

Our young OFD: Josi, Blum, Ellis

This deal makes 0 sense for Nashville. We trade a forward that fits perfectly in our system (physical PWF type) in Wilson for a guy who Trotz would hate in Gagner. Petry is a really nice piece, but we have an abundance of offensive D (Josi/Blum/Ellis) and a lack of DFD (Gill and Hannan will retire in a year or two, leaving just Klein). Can't trade our only moderately young DFD for an OFD.

Without even commenting on value, this just doesn't match our needs. Gagner is not the type of C we need.

I think that it makes more sense to send a winger like Hemsky to NAS that is what they need is some skill.

Wilson is a much more useful player than Gagner.

Klein is currently better than Petry. That may change but probably not too soon.

No way Preds go for it.

Uh no thanks. I don't think we improve at all doing this trade. We do not need to be moving one of our only vet defenders for yet another young defenseman and I'd much rather see where Wilson takes his game before trading him for Gagner

im going to say the same thing i say every time a Gagner -> nash trade comes up (allot)
Gagner would play our 3rdline center right now..
not saying he would be the 3rd most skilled or anything like that but its how this team works.. Gagner would be our 3rd line center .. this def isnt worth losing Wilson and Klein let alone adding to it..

Smid (re-signed, hopefully) is a much more attractive piece to us than Petry due to his physical style. Still probably not worth it in the OP, but I could see something AROUND Smid and Wilson working out both ways.

PROBABLY!

This is not about guessing BUDDY!

Just the Facts!

Our Smid Petry pairing played the last half of the year together. 30 games in front of D. Dubnyk
Who was
.777 win% 2.11GA .933 SV%

petry had a season pace of 3G 44A with this pairing.

They were the 5th best 1st pairing D last half of the year.

Heck Smid was was 5G 25PT seaon pace w Petry.

Anyone who wants to trade Petry or Smid.

There are not adjective to describe how big a mistake that is.

When we rolled a top 4 of
Smid-Petry
Whitney-N. Schultz

in front of Dubnyk
772 win% 1.96 GA .935 SV% all losses were only 3.00 GA games.

And the leaf lovers @ TSN said 3.5M for him was nuts.
He was better than price last half and the year and got 3M less.

Our Problem last year was to much KHB
with 2 of Gilbert, Barker, Tuebert in top 4 most of the Year.

I willl take the last half of the season.

If we get to role
Smid-Petry
Whitney-N. Schultz
Peckham-J.Schultz
Potter
It will be a new day.

If you seriously think TSN favors the leafs then you really do not watch TSN. Pierre Mac G hates the leafs James Duthie craves a chance to tear them apart. Hell even Cybulski on TSN 1050 Toronto is not bashing the leafs but he is not going out of his way to spew BS about the organization.

As for the trade. I seriously do not see why Nashville does this. Nashville is pretty high on Klein and with him being their only DFD they can only trade him if someone like that is coming back.

no one gave up on Gagner, imagine the points he'll be getting now with the 2nd line wingers he has to play with in Edmonton today.

Don't think Nashville does this. Not based on value, its there, but style of team. Both Klein and Wilson are tough, strong, hardworking guys... Fits the team mould.

I alway liked Gagner , But points do not tell the whole story , 40 to 50 points a year #2 center , weak in the circle , not a great two way player , he has improved , Not physical enough , will fight and beat up the other guys fists with his face . WE have skill we need to get tougher to play against now ,. Forget the skill in the next few drafts . Focus on team d and toughness and maybe add a high end goalie prospect .

I have been an Oiler fan since they came into the NHL and this is the least physical team we have ever had . If we some how had the 1st Over all pick this year ,it would be best to take Seth Jones , trade some prospects and Gagner for a good 2 C . Seth is like a young Pronger that can grow with our team and be a true number one time we are ready to contend for a cup .
All our high end talent means nothing with out a good physical bottom 6 , a real real Good defence and a high end Goalie .

I'd be devastated if Edmonton coughed up Petry. Him and Smid were gangbusters last year when you consider their +/- on the second worst team in the league.
I agree Petry should not be going any where , we need to add D and get rid of some of the deadwood we use as D men

Wow Petry is getting majorally underrated ITT. I would not touch this deal if I was Edm.

That's all we've been hearing. What about Klein? Certainly he is getting flown under the radar.

I think you underestimate the value Klein has to the Preds organization. On top of that Wilson value is pretty low right now for what he can become.

Neither team does this. It makes them both worse, regardless of who gets more value.

Great if Klein has value to the Preds, it doesn't mean that he's better then Petry. The value between the 2 is debatable, but Petry has a lot more potential then Klein. As to Wilson, please explain to me why the Oilers trade Gagner for him. Wilson would be a great pick up for the Oilers if he used his size, but he doesn't. Rather keep Gagner, even with his faults.

I'm sorry but klein is a very solid defensive defender, and I think a lot of people don't recognize him as a good defender since he has always been behind Weber and Suter, an at some points Hamhuis( all though they were horrible together that last year.) and he doesn't put up a lot of points.

I'm sure eventually Petry will be better, but for right now we don't need eventually and you don't need right now.

If you were looking to go deeper in the playoffs then last year, or if we were rebuilding I think this would be a nice trade, but the roles are reversed so nobody really wants to say it's a good deal.

Gagner and Petry both have more value to EDM. Klein and Wilson both have more value to NSH. No reason for this trade.

Klein and Wilson fit Trotz's system while Gagner and Petry fit Kruegers system, no go.

for me it's Gagner for Wilson and I decline that.

I also wouldn't trade Petry for Klein straight up, I am interested in trading for Kevin Klein but it would be hard for Nashville's management to move Klein unless it was overpayment. I feel Jeff Petry brings more to the table but at the same time Edmonton have enough defensive defenceman upcoming in the system(with size)
