Cap hit.

Waddell offered him two contracts. 101 over 12 years and 70 over 7.

One capping under 9 and the other capping at 10

So they traded him to NJ.

NJ offered him 102 over 17 years but got rejected by the league and reduced it to 15.

Let's take a look at his contract.

You can try to tell me there isn't much difference between 10m and 11m but If I offered you 2 jobs, one that pays 50k a year or what that pays 55k and has more perks, which would you take?

Even if the contracts were the same. Or New Jerseys was less, it adds to my point that Ilya gave the finger to Atlanta and their fans while Alfie calls Ottawa his home and plans to live here after retirement.

You also skipped over the part where I said he wanted to play for a better team. Another slap to Atlantians. (or however they like to be called)

Alfie said he wouldn't want to win a cup with any other team but Ottawa.

I always had the impression that Kovalchuk was disliked. I cant think of a person I know who likes the guy.

You would be hard pressed to find a more loyal player in any sport.

Source?

Also, Brodeur and Sakic.

Also, people who don't like Kovalchuk are the ones that wish he was on their team but are pissed because he isn't.

I dislike him because of what he did to Atlanta.

I am glad he and his contract are no where near my team.

Comparing Ottawa to Atlanta is like comparing apples and oranges. The Thrashers were run awfully from head-to-toe, with little fan support whatsoever, and a terrible product on the ice night in and night out.

He said this not the same words all the time, but the principal point was always there:

“I feel like Lou (Lamoriello) and ownership always put (together) a team who can compete for the Cup every year. So, that’s the kind of environment I want to play in.”

Kovalchuk left because he wanted to win a cup. I'm not saying Kovalchuk is a more loyal player than Alfredsson, but Kovalchuk is one hell of a loyal player and a teammate. He was given way too many false labels in Atlanta.

Kovalchuk is a classy player that sticks up for his teammates and contrary to most people's beliefs, could care less about the stats. In his first Rangers-Devils game, Avery was yapping at him, and Kovalchuk ignored him. The second Avery said something to Brodeur he pounced on Avery's ass. Same goes for Rinaldo slewfooting Parise, Kovalchuk was the first guy in there trying to get a piece of Rinaldo.

He didn't sign in Atlanta because of the owner situation and there was a good chance of relocation. The deals of the other teams were offered after it was clear he wouldn't stay.

Kovy is the ****ing man, one of the most exciting players to watch in the entire league IMO. Alfie seems like a good guy but Kovy is probably my 2nd favorite player in the NHL, so I take him pretty easily.

I saw Lundqvist and Alfredsson walking together at Operation Hat Trick. Asked if they had a second to sign an autograph.

Lundqvist stopped. Alfredsson walked onto the bus.

Kovy.
After getting eliminated from the 2012 NHL playoffs, Daniel Alfredsson had the bus driver stop, then got off to sign autographs for fans.

False. Alfredsson had the bus driver stop. Then back up and run the fans over while he ate kittens by the dozen.

Kovalchuk giving the finger to Altanta and his fans ? Are you serious ??? IK wasted his best years playing for one of the most poorly managed team in the NHL history. He never whined when they were trading their best pieces away for peanuts. Hats off to Alfie for being so loyal, but Ottawa and Atlanta were teams with 2 very different history. And Kovalchuk paid more than his due playing for the Thrashers.

If Kovalchuk deserved something for his 10 years spent in Georgia, it's a medal and nothing less.
