I'm a huge Nolan Batman fan but I go with the 1989 version. Nicholson's rendition of the Joker was incredible.

I voted both. Cop out, I know but I think they are both equally important to the mythos and the franchise.

I might be in the minority but I think Batman Begins is the best film of both "trilogies". (We can pretend Batman & Robin never happened)

The Batman storyline was better in Burton's, but the Bruce Wayne storyline was better in Nolan's. Personally I preferred the the strong Bruce Wayne storyline as I found it provided a stronger sense of reality/believability.

Both were good though.

Nicholson was so laughably bad as the Joker. Really, really awful performance.

1989, simply because it's easily in my top 10, probably top 5 of most movies watched of all time... it was my fav when I was a kid.

Seen the Batman Begins around 5 times, liked it and everything, but I watched the 1989 version almost everyday when I got it on VHS, was 6 at the time or so....

I think they are both quality and not going to cop out, so I went with movie I seen the most... and at one point WAS my favourite movie... I enjoyed Begins but it was never my favourite at any point in my life.

I voted 1989 because I thought that said Batman 1995, not 2005. Put me in the 2005 camp.

I'm a huge fan of Batman Begins. I actually thought it was the best and most interesting of the 3 movies in that trilogy.

I think many posters here have not even seen the 1989 Batman...

The 1989 Batman beat Batman begins in these areas:

- Theme. Danny Elfman's Batman theme is a million times more catchy and epic than Zimmer's work. So good they used it in the animated series.
- Batcave, Batcomputer, Batmobile, Batwing, utility belt, grappling hook. All necessary items in Batman lore. "Where does he get all those wonderful toys?"
- Nicholson's Joker naturally is a better villain than Scarecrow.
- Michael Keaton is a better Batman than Christian Bale. Better fight scenes. Voice was different from Bruce Wayne's but not as ridiculous as Bale's.

What Batman Begins does better is the overall visuals perhaps and that Christian Bale is a better Bruce Wayne.

Loved Batman in '89, loved Nicholson as the Joker. Haters gonna hate.

Personally I liked the '89 Batman a lot more than any of the newer Batman films. It's less 'realistic', and yet somehow much less over-the-top.

I went with both. Both movies are important to the Batman Lore. I often wonder what would have happened had Keaton come back for a thirs & Joel Schlmuker had not been hired as director. Schlmuker pretty much killed that franchise for a few years with two terrible movies.

89' Batman was a solid movie. I give that movie mad props because they used no CGI every gadget was real, every stunt was done by a stunt man or by Keaton & Nicolson & the story was pretty good, fairly true to the comic without going over board.

Both versions of the joker were entertaining. In Batman Begins we see the joker already established, were in Batman 89' we see the joker begin.

Something were forced due to time constraints & I would love to see the director cut.

Batman Begins went were 89' Batman did not go, the full back story of Bruce Wayne & how he became Batman etc... 89' Batman we are watching the movie after Batman has been lurking about for a while but hasn't been revealed yet to the public at large.

Batman Begins was epic.Ras al Ghul was my favorite Batman villain. It also was one of the movies that started the whole Comic Book Superhero craze (along with Spiderman)

Plus the Prince soundtrack. I'll take the 89 version too without Kim Basinger's screaming.

The main issue with Batman & Robin is that there is way too much going on. Way too many characters & what they did to Bane was down right criminal.

I'm sure if you were a kid it was great but otherwise it was total camp like the old Adam West show, but without the self-realization as such.

It's a steaming pile of crap that drove the franchise into the ground while jumping the shark at the same time.
