Think he took any punching / boxing tips from Rory?

I don't know that I want Letang getting into a lot of fights because of the role he plays for this team (not much use to us with a broken hand / fingers), but it would be great to see him beat the crap out of a couple punks every season, if the other guy instigates.

I could see it now...Letang putting Giroux in a rear naked choke during a scrum in the crease

He could challenge Karlsson to a fight and make him 'forget' that Norris he won.

This is cool cuz i'm a Rory and mma fan.
But not much to teach a guy in terms of fighting that involves clutching and grabbing of a jersey.

Could learn more from the likes of Steve McIntyre in terms of hockey fighting but more strength/agility on top of what he already has is a good thing.

Kris Letang could beat an opponent to a bloody pulp in a fight every game night and it would still be a 'win' for the other team.

I do however understand that he is just 'training' with him and will not now all of the sudden be getting in a bunch of fights.

ya I'm pretty sure this has very little to do with being a better fighter. Players that good should almost never fight. I understand there may be extreme cases, but I just laugh every time I see someone like Chara get in a fight during a close game.

For my part I was being sarcastic mostly about the punching technique thing, but you have to admit it would be pretty funny if he got some pointers for close-quarters punching. Tanginator.

Training takedowns and some throws could come in handy, and would be best for Letang. No reason in risking his hands, get the takedown with top position and move on..

People are losing track of this whole thing...

The MMA fighter is training with Letang, not the other way around. Going by the video, Rory is trying to be more explosive by training with a hockey player who trains to be explosive with his skating.

Thinking Letang is going out of his way to train with an MMA fighter like Rypien did, is not the case here.

Rory McDonald and Letang train together in agility and speed drills. That's all.

Takedowns are pointless and dangerous (for the other player).

Wrestling take-downs shouldn't be on the ice. Like posted above, it just causes injuries.

Why even bother dropping the gloves then? If you aren't going to try to punch the dude in the face, why bother taking the 5 minutes off the ice?

Exactly. This is the same place he trained at last year. He's not training there to learn how to fight better.

Yeah, but if he's fired up, he'll want to tee off on the guy, not perform a double leg take down and get in side control on the dude.

You guys can watch fox right now for live UFC. Rory is fighting tonight. He's up against Bj Penn which might get interesting.

That's actually the 'trying to stand on the ice without skates'.
