Rick DiPietro!!

Let say there is an amnesty clause in the new CBA and NYI can finally free themselves from Dipietro contract.

Dipietro would now be an UFA.

Any team interested to give him a shoot?

I imagine it would be a league minimum, two way contract, allowing him to play in the AHL if it doesn't work. I could see a 1 year contract with an optional year.

Somewhat of a "low risk" contract but who could bring reward if Dipietro defy the expectation and stay healthy. (I could not resist to put Low risk and Dipietro in the same sentence!)

As a Montréal fan i could see him as a AHL backup in Hamilton. Our AHL goalies are struggling right now. But i guess other team could give him a more important role (AHL starter, with opportunity of call-up ? Or NHL backup? NHL replacement in case of an injury?)

In all honesty I think their is a better chance they buy him out without any amnesty then with amnesty. No way would Wang want to pay a guy 1.5M a year without that caphit helping them get over the cap min(Islanders basically for the past few years have used every trick possible to get over the cap min without actually paying the actual amount)

But if Dipietro have the choice between a Scout/ Assitant coach in the Isles organization.

Or be a goalie somewhere else ?

He can always come back with the NYI later in his career.

Interesting point of view.....

I guess it will all depends on how the new CBA works. It will be interesting to evaluate NYI options then: if there is an amnesty clause, if its still possible to buy out a contract, how much is the cap floor...

Lot of speculation, but its always interesting to speculate.

I think if he is bought out, and doesn't retire, that its a given he signs a 2-way deal, and starts in the AHL to show he can stay healthy for once before ever sniffing the NHL again. I may be lynched by fellow Sens fans, but I wouldn't mind signing him to a cheap 2-way deal to help out in Binghampton. We run with Anderson and Lehner/Bishop in the NHL, and Lehner/Bishop and DiPietro in the AHL (likely Lehner in the NHL).

He won't help out any team. I like his personality, but he's done as a hockey player.

(e5) Word of a new NHL expansion team, the Hong Kong FineChinas. As their first 2 acquisitions, they have signed Dipietro and Pascal Leclaire to be their goaltending tandem.

Did you read the OP ?

we are not talking about trade, not talking about his big contract anymore.

We are talking about an UFA Dipietro.

Honestly, I did not. Sorry about that.

Now to actually answer the question, I don't think anyone will offer him a contract.

Imo Wang loves that DiPietro's always bled the NYI colors. Wang's big on loyalty.

With DiPietro's outgoing personality, I could see him ending up in the broadcast booth.

I wouldn't mind Dipietro as a bridge backup until Mrazek in Detroit if Gustavsson doesn't work out. Pending health of course; healthy Dipietro is actually an NHL goalie. Injured Dipietro is sitting on the couch, and fighting with injuries Dipietro is the most useless of the three.

I'll be pulling for DiPietro to put the injuries behind him because he's a classy kid, but I have doubts he can.
He's played 47 total games over the last 4 seasons.

The worst part is that he went into 2011-2012, saying how great he felt ,that he was healthier then he'd been in yrs.

wang only did all that because he was nervous about the teams future, he wouldn't be doing that anymore now that he has the deal with the barclay center

btw he either becomes a scout or part of the broadcast team for the isles

He would get an invite to a training camp or two. If he impressed he'd be offered a short term back-up goalie contract for league minimum to under one million. There are many UFA goalies he'd be competing for spots with. Goalies who are not at the top of their game hold zero to negative value.

I wouldn't mind if he signed a two way contract signing him for the minimum to back up quick after we trade bernier I think he would be a decent backup goalie after all hes used to going a while between starts and its only maybe a 20 game a year job behind quick

He would remain on the isles as a goalie coach or some form of assistant to someone of importance. Just a shame because Dipetro was considered the most physically in shape goalie back in 03-04. Now if he even strains a muscle it strains his season.

No. Ranger was worth giving a chance to, but Dietietro with his injuries, not a ********* chance.

If that was the case then I would love the Leafs to give him a shot. I always liked DiPietro. I realize he's been off the rails for awhile now with constant injuries and bad play but I still believe he can get his game back, on any NHL team.
