The only comparable is Tavares - 45g 32a 77p in 65 games.

McDavid is impressive.

McDavid is impressive.

Spezza put up 71 points in 67 games to lead the Battalion in scoring as a 15 year old in 98-99.

Acknowledging the fact that there are much more polished players available for this years wjc. Would it be a good idea to have Mcdavid in some sort of secondary scoring role for Team Canada this year?

I like the kid, however I don't see how useful he can be right now at the WJC. Unfortunately he got pretty much zero ice time against the Russians during the Subway Series, so we don't know just how good he is against national level teams. Let him play in the U17 first then go from there.

I honestly don't know, but I'm sure he is. The point I was trying to make is that he's doing nearly all his scoring at even strength and putting up big numbers while doing it. At 15, no less...

In 28 games, a 15 year old playing in the OHL has been held pointless 3 times.

They don't need him. They have lots of scoring. They need big, intimidating players who score and McDavid only does the latter. I truly believe McDavid will make the team as a 16 year old next year though.

Did anybody see the goal? Sounds like McDavid added to his highlight reel.

He's doesn't just seem to be a highlite reel one night and disappear from the score sheet the next, very consistent.

It's funny little over a year ago if someone said that Mcdavid is on or close to Ho-Sang's level they would get laughed at or shut down (which did happen if I remember correctly), now all you have to do is reverse the names and it's a similar situation. Both fantastic players. People even said earlier last year that Mcdavid shouldn't get exceptional status around December, he really ramped it up.

Based on what I have seen, Tavares doesnt come close to this kid. JT came into the OHL physically mature, and his number one strength has always been adapting to the game around him. As McDavid's ability to read the play gets better (you have to think it does over 2 years), this kids potential is scary.

IMO, hes definitely the best 15 year old hockey player since Crosby. Lets see if he can keep pace

Convenient that the Sharks have Thornton, Marleau, Boyle, and Pavelski set to become UFA's the summer of 2014.

This kid is just so good it's retarded.- He looks really fast skater too even if he is just 15 yrs old and getting stronger every day. He will be better than Crosby, no doubt. Crosby has unique vision but so has McDavid. Otherwise this kid is simply better (except shot, ofc). He is better skater, better stickhandler --- just simply more talented. Crosby may be the most competitive player there is but McDavid's NATURAL talent is just supreme and incomparable.

The tournament starts on the 29th and runs through the 4th, but exhibition games are on the 28th.

McDavid has a long way to go to reach Crosby's strength and balance at that age. He's got a better set of puck skills though.

I have to say I was hoping he would get an invite to the Team Canada Camp, though I certainly wasn't expecting it. It would have been a great experience for him, but I wouldn't ever see him making the team, just because he'd probably have to play in a top 6 role and he's not there yet.

Maybe if the lockout ends and a few guys like RNH and Huberdeau are removed from the camp he'll get a look. He's already one of the fastest and most skilled players in the CHL. I couldn't imagine the numbers he'd be putting up if he had some better offensive support on his team. I'd argue he's in the conversation for top 10 forwards in the league already.

Has a 15 y/o ever gotten invited to their country's WJC camp? Is that even allowed? At this pace he's gonna be a good bet for next year's team, right?

Wouldn't he have to play for the U18 team before the WJC team? I thought all those players had to be 18-19.

Technically no, but Hockey Canada rarely even invites 17 year old players to camp, let alone 16 year old players. At 15 he had almost no chance regardless of how impressive he has been thus far.

It is likely McDavid will receive an invite as a 16 year old next year.

technically yes... if they applied the same rule to McDavid as they did this past summer to Nathan Mackinnon for the august summit Series, no player can participate in an U20 event until he first participates in an U18 event.

But Hockey Canada is and can be very selective about how they apply those rules... if they see something they don't like, then the rule is the rule... if they really love the player and see him as the best thing since toast and jam, then they'll waive the rule where they see fit. Hockey Canada is very much a political organization with it's own agenda.
