As someone said in the last thread I still get chills.

Even though this was the 2nd championship this is the one where I can tell you exactly where I was and who I was with.

Congatulations to Tom Cheek and his family. This honour has been far to long in coming.
The earliest baseball memory that I truly remember with clarity and detail is Carter's walkoff and that call. Chills.

I would go after him for maybe a B prospect and Lind (who makes 5 Million and has 3 years of team options)
Corey Hart would really complete the offence as the number 5 hitter. He would put us over the top, are offence is already one of the best - adding his potent bat behind bautista and EE would just be amazing.

Looks like we didn't pick up anybody in the Rule 5 draft. (mlbtraderumors.com)

And doesn't look like we've lost anyone either.

If we added Hart, would we have a weakness offensively?

Reyes
Cabrera
Bautista
EE
Hart
Lawrie
Rasmus
JPA
Bonifacio/Izturis

Our 1-2 hitters last year would become our 6-7 guys this year. That's a huge improvement.

He's not a flamethrower though, sits 92-94 its his wicked slider that gets K's. Besides its a reliever, its not like we're talking 5 million + a year, he would more then replace Oliver in veteran presence and likely dollar value.

What would happen if Oliver decides to play in 2013, seems like a logjam of relievers

Hart has a limited no trade clause. Apparently it involves teams that have spring training facilities in Florida. He prefers to go to a team that has spring training in Arizona.

Never a log jam really. It would push someone like Esmil Rogers out of the bullpen. Oliver and Grilli would be separate entities anyways. Oliver is a LOOGY, right now its pretty much down to him or Loup.

Jays just selected Sawyer Carrol in the rule 5 draft. AA outfielder in San Diego's organization.

Lol everyone passed in the AA portion of the draft.

So in total we lost 1 player and picked three. All picks were from the AAA portion of the draft, no picks in the major league portion or AA portion.

That's awesome

Can I call dibs on the first Morrow avatar of the year, or is that too early? lol

Also, on the Hart talks, he would be a solid fit I think, but if you look at his splits he did a LOT of his damage in that bandbox in Milwaukee, we saw first hand how easily HRs come there lol (still wouldn't mind him for the right price though). Also I don't see the Brewers taking on Lind's salary, it would have to be for a decent prospect or 2, since they're trying to clear his salary for a FA pitcher like Anibal.

I guess Grilli would push Loup back to the minors. That would give us our depth.

Also:
Grilli for Loup then most likely Happ for Cecil assuming we upgrade on that #5 position.

Janssen
Santos
Delabar
Lincoln
Rogers
Grilli
Happ

Then Cecil, Loup in the minors along with prospects like Stroman and Drabek that will come back throughout the year, damn that BP could be nice.

Jays sign Claudio Vargas to a minor league deal with an invite to ST.

There's your #7-8 starter/Laffey type.

Pitched in the PCL last year in Milwaukee's system, has good big league experience.

I won't be upset if we get him by any means but his last two years don't line up with the rest of his career. Seems like a bit of a red flag to me. His numbers in those last two years though are scary good.

What?

A guy with 150 major league starts under his belt, willing to sign a minor league deal, had pretty good numbers in the PCL last year.

He's the guy who comes in and starts when you lose 2 guys in a week... Also can be a valuable vet for the young starters like Jenkins and McGuire at AAA. How can that be anything but good?

'08 with the Rockies he was steamrolling too.

Let's say he started getting really good by the time he turned 35, that's pretty damn similar to Oliver. Granted he didn't start in the majors for several seasons like Oliver, but some of these guys improve later in their careers and fairly drastically too.
