I wish the Canucks had any logo other than their current one. After orca bay sold the team and aquillinis came out of the courts with ownership i was excited for a new logo and colour design. The colours they had been using had no omage to killer whale colours and of course the team was seen as a joke for changing logos so much.

So what do the canucks do? They pay some metro meat head 2 million dollars to come up with the new jersey. He delivers the exact same logo orca bay entertainment had used with now 70s colours and a goofy 2D Vancouver in ms paint font.

F You all those who designed and approved the latest canucks jersey

You'd be too if you had to witness some of the "talent" that went through the organization.

It's just glaring of a stylistic rip-off for me to get over...it's like why no other team in the NHL has the mid-gut stripe other than Montreal. That's their signature.

The Penguins similarities to the shoulder yoke of the Red Wings is far less identity theft as much as it is a common history. The Penguins' use of that yoke dates to the old Pittsburgh Hornets.

The Hornets were the AHL affiliate of the Red Wings. They won the Calder Cup in their last game ever in 1967 before the Penguins moved into town.

It was a nice homage without being completely the same - the various jerseys the Penguins used with that yoke between 1977-92 always came with more complicated striping than the Red Wings have ever used. Plus we're just talking about a shoulder yoke, not a full jersey template, and certainly not an essential rip-off of the cresting.
I like the history lesson.

Something That Bring a Smile or Tear to Your Faces

Well, seeing as someone already mentioned the OTHER Late 90's Duck Jersey's, I feel I had to do my part...

I can really see why they did not want to wear that Jersey. It looks terrible, and Teemu looks embarrassed.

Remember when they introduce all those stupid crossing or uneven lines at the bottoms of the jerseys? I hope someone got fired.....out of a cannon.

Perhaps the only thing worse are the vertical lines that run up the sides.

I always thought they were too baggy. They look better fitted now. Some may be ugly but at least they don't look like pajamas.

Totally agree. The original sens logo was an instant classic. Looked like it had been around for decades. Great example of design restraint. Going to the 3-D was an abomination IMO.

The Whalers of the 90s had some of the best jerseys ever. I went to a lot of Canes games when I lived in Chapel Hill and Charlotte and I always loved seeing fans rocking the Whalers jerseys still.

Honorable mention to the Nordiques. I ran into a guy wearing a Nordiques hat in the airport like a month ago and gave him a high five.

I would kill for a return to the 90's for jerseys. The Ducks alt set might be my favorite all time jersey, plus the all-stars were great.

Also, regarding Teemu and the Wild Wing...lol. I met him once and wore that. He came over to me and said "Where the hell did you get that??" I turned around and showed him it was customized as Selanne 8, and he asked me if he could sign it haha. We then talked a bit and he asked me if I wanted to take a picture. I had a few Teemu jerseys on me and asked if he would wear the Wild Wing for the pic and he had this look of horror on his face and just laughed it off saying "ehhhh I don't think so."

Yea, it's ugly, but it's freakin' awesome. Here's mine:

Better than "random stripe going the wrong direction".

I so want to go on a retro jersey spending spree right now. Thanks for reaffirming my desire to become a major hockey jersey collector.

Greatest post ever.

When people are gushing over the Mighty Ducks Donald Duck jerseys, the barftastic peyote mess of the Coyotes uniforms, or the awful Pooh-Bear sweaters I find myself simply at a loss for words.

The late 90's uniforms were awful.

It's just a different way of thinking. Nowadays, it is about simplicity, being generic, very limited creativity if any at all. Creativity is frowned upon in modern society. A lot of us have not bought in to this new way of thinking and lifestyle. At the time, we liked the 90's jerseys and thought they were quite good. The degredation of creativy and substance these days has elevated those jerseys to an even higher level in our eyes. Hope that helps.

Being TOO simplistic is a problem too. For example, I've always found the Leafs jerseys to be too bland and boring. The Dallas Cowboys have some snooze-inducing uniforms. But to be longing for the days of the Donald Duck jerseys and these

is where you lose me. Creativity only goes so far. Ugly is ugly.

Give me the Blackhawks, Devils and Flyers jerseys any day of the week.

TL;DR - Creativity is great and all, but not in the hands of the second-rate marketing hacks who worked for the NHL in the late 1990s.
Honestly, this is among the greatest posts I've ever seen here. Great read.

On a side note, I'd like to just point out irony of the NYR Liberty logo, when the Statue of Liberty is actually in New Jersey.

Hey, I appreciate that too. The jersey you posted was the third and yeah, it was ugly. I'm not going to deny that at all.

This, however, was a great jersey IMO and should be the jersey now:

This, I mean, it isn't awful but yeah, it is bland for me and compared to the old jersey, it just doesn't do it for me. I'd like to hear why people think the head is better than the moon dog, let along the rest of the jersey, which still was much better before IMO:

Might Ducks

Again, ****ing amazing jersey, should be the jersey now, also remember, a lot us grew up with those movies and in general grew up watching the NHL in the 90's, it means a lot to us, not sure how old you are but just making a point:

This, ****ing awful, creativity gone overboard, agreed:

But this, I mean, really? Talk about lame. This is like a high school jersey:

This isn't true. Not only does the Statue of Liberty represent New York emotionally, but

According to the United States Census Bureau, the island has a land area of 59,558 square meters, or 14.717 acres, which is the property of the federal government. The biggest issue people had with that jersey was always the logo. There were just too many shapes and angles going on, resulting in distracting visual clutter.

Fix the logo (meaning, replace it with something that looks remotely like a hockey crest) and that's a decent design with bonus points for creativity and cultural identity.
