Best I can tell is Twins are going to put some meh guys in the outfield and wait for Hicks to develop?

All the rumors about the Twins being after several different pitchers, I don't think the trade makes sense (especially after trading Span). I was never a huge Revere fan because I don't think he has the arm to play in the outfield.

Maybe this trade is a precursor to signing Hamilton?

By the looks of Worley's stats, it looks like a win for the Phillies

I wasn't a fan of trading Span and made my feelings on that trade known. But I think they sold high on Revere here. Given they have sound depth at the position and Hicks who may be ready to go in the near future, it made sense to capitalize.

The team is going to be horrid regardless, Ben Revere isn't going to hurt them. They're going into full rebuild mode right now.

So might as well move Mauer, Morneau, and Willingham while they're at it. Become the new Timberwolves.

What is wrong with that? (Minus the T-wolves comment)

Those three comprise of 60% of the team salary.

Willingham will be dealt, eventually. Likely deadline. Morneau as well if there's a taker. We all know Mauer is going nowhere, though.

Same here. I think Span was more important to this team than many believe. But if they're going into full rebuild mode, why not trade guys like Willingham and Carroll before trading Revere?

I mean making themselves completely irrelevant in the MN sports conversation, like the Wolves were for the last six years.

Truthfully, I think now is the time to trade Mauer (it was time to before but he had a nice bounce back year). I don't think they could get quite the haul of prospects like they could've a few years ago but they still could get something nice for him.

I still think Morneau has got to go to. Granted, it's not good to see the Twins spend less money but I feel like Morneau is one concussion away from his career being ended.

Agreed, but they were irrelevant in the mid - late 90's stocking up on talent/prospects then look at how the 2000s went. This is the roller coaster ride that is MN pro sports. They had their chance within the last 5 years of when they were winning divisions to get a 3rd ring. Now with nothing waiting in the wings down in minors and nothing working up with the big team, it is time to start cutting players that will not be able to make much of a contribution in 5+ years.

And the 5+ years would be what could be a playoff contender if they were to start from scratch right......about.....MEOW.

I'm fairly certain he's already on record saying just that. Morneau is damaged goods.

Trading Span, Revere, and perhaps Willingham/Morneau later is a step in rebuilding. Trading Mauer, on the other hand, is telling the fans you're completely giving up. Fans can overcome these trades that have happened but they'll never forgive Ryan for trading Mauer.

Yeah I wasn't a big Revere fan, and saw him only as a placeholder at CF for Hicks/Buxton.

Apparently Worley had a bone chip in his elbow this year, so hopefully his 2012 was due to that.

Or the Wild the last three.

I don't pretend to know anything about baseball (clearly), but the Twins are going to be steaming hot garbage for the next three years at least. Mauer will then be...33 years old. He's never been a power hitter and will not be catching at all. Outside of his name and where he was born, what's the reason for hanging on to him?

The Revere trade doesn't look nearly as bad now that Trevor May is included (considered Phillie's best prospect?). But like stated by multiple people, it seems strange to trade Span and Revere considering their respective ages when Willingham, Carroll, etc... should go first.

It just puts butts in seats. Baseball isn't about winning or losing. It's about making money.

It's because Philadelphia was looking specifically for a CF and that was our best asset to offer them. We have a plethora of OF prospects (Hicks, Benson, Arcia, Buxton, perhaps Sano) and we obviously need pitching. It's time to give at least one of those guys a chance this next season with Willingham and Mastrionni.

Also, you don't trade Mauer because you want at least a few people to still come to the games.

That last part didn't stop Miami.

All in all it sounds like a good move with May included. Along with the Span trade:

Meyer - potential #1
May - potential #2/3
Worley - current #3/4

Along with Diamond and Gibson, that's an actual MLB rotation if it all pans out...although probably 3+ years away.

Yep it's absolutely a play for 2014-2015. Ryan is shrewd enough to realize it's impossible to play for next season..definitely moves for the future.

Very cool.

Have you ever thought about being traded? How do you think you would feel in that situation?

FYI, the Twins (my team) are desperate for a top of the rotation guy, just tell Amaro that "mightyminneapolis said it was ok."
