Noronen sidelined by throat cut

Associated Press
12/9/2003

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo Sabres goaltender Mika Noronen suffered a cut to his neck during practice on Monday and will miss the team's game Wednesday against Detroit.

Noronen also missed Tuesday's workout after team doctors told him he would not be allowed to practise due to stitches that were needed to close the cut.

Noronen was injured when forward Chris Drury's skate sliced his neck just below his jawbone and to the right of his throat area. Drury fell after tripping over Noronen's stick.

Why don't more players wear neck protectors? Dumb dumb dumb, totally preventable.

this is why I never play without my Neck Protector, it's such a small piece of padding and isn't even noticeable while wearing it, it doesn't restrict movement either, and should the freak accident happen where a skate hits your neck, then you'll come out of it alive at least, Malarchuk got lucky, He had a guardian angel looking out for him that night.
