Chris Pronger moves back to STL, career probably over
I didn't see this posted here though it's a few days old. Maybe it can be moved to the trades forum since it's speculation but the fact that him and his family have moved back to STL is not speculation.
So the official retirement has not been announced, he might not announce it till his contract runs out in 2017 or maybe is bought out.
Was not his biggest fan when he was on the Flyers (Post 2009-2010, anyway), but I obviously wish him well. Hope he can stay healthy and live a nice life.
Pronger definitely played on, and at times, over the edge. He is the exact type of player that fans and other teams hated to see on the ice against their respected teams but loved when he was wearing your colors. He never played for any of the teams I cheer for in the NHL but he did play for team Canada on many occasions and was a great soldier. Love him or hate him he is one of the best Dmen ever to play the game. One of the most feared and dominating dmen ever. Truly a HoF player. I'm not surprised by this and even though nothing has been made official I think we've all suspected this for some time. Unfortunate for it to end this way.
He might be the last defenseman of the type that we ever see. Big, physical, strong, and proficient at pretty much every facet of the game. He was also possibly one of the nastiest mofos to ever play.
I hate what he did to the Oilers, but I have a ton of respect for his abilities and what he brought to the game.
Not a big Pronger fan, but he's always had his house in St. Louis since he played with the Blues. While he still might be retiring, I do know that he stays in St. Louis during the offseason and at times.
Being a 35+ contract (and assuming the rules stay the same), Pronger's AAV will still count towards Philly's cap.
He'll more than likely stay on LTIR for the remainder of his deal. He'll get paid and the Flyers won't be on the hook for the cap. It's a win-win for both sides. The only problem is that the Flyers have yet to replace him on the roster and they still owe him millions of dollars for the situation.
Im an Oilers fan so part of me doesnt like him for his stunt. However he is one of the best defenseman to ever win the game. He took almost every team he played for to the cup finals. And for that I thank him.
