it seems to me that last time around the NHLPA thought that the league would never actually lose the entire season and that if they just said "no" enough times there would be no changes in the end.
Don Fehr is probably one of the best there is, and he knows when and how to close a deal. Both sides will come out of this one feeling like their objectives have been met and hopefully they'll get it set up so this won't be a regular occurance.

Stars C Derek Roy (shoulder) is getting close to being full recovered. He is expected
Obviously we won't know how it'll affect his upcoming season compared to if he had played through the pain... but the decision to push the surgery seems more and more like a good one by Joe.
There are a lot of things you do on the ice that involve your shoulder, and you probably shouldn’t be thinking about how it’s feeling during the game. If you’re 100 percent healthy and confident, then you can just worry about the game.
Everything that has happened here has been first-class, and I can’t say enough about the team and the city. I’m excited about getting out there and playing, and I can see myself staying here a long time.

I'll admit I'm not the biggest Roy fan, but he made some big plays for us over the years and I think you guys will like him.
His time in Buffalo was up, he needed a change of scenery and I think he will excel in Dallas and get back to that 70+ pt realm. He'll be a great #2 behind Benn. I hope he does well for you guys.
If you follow Roy on Twitter its pretty funny. Dude is a huge extrovert/party animal and seems to have connections with everyone. Seems to be enjoying his time in Dallas a lot.

Napoli probably told him he was going to Boston 2 weeks ago.

Bet he's totally hit it w/ the great Rachel Starr by now.
It's an interesting question of what exactly you do about Roy if there's no season to gauge how he fits here.
To feel comfortable letting him walk I think we'd need to see even more offense out of Eakin the rest of the way in the AHL. I think Eakin can eventually be a 2nd line center but he may not be ready for that role by 2013-14. If your centers are Benn/Roy/Eakin/Fiddler you can look at that and say the position is a strength.
So do you offer him a deal around what he's making now at 4 million? It's hard to get a sense for how much in demand he'd be around the league if he were to hit the open market. If the lockout isn't resolved until the summer it's possible that a glut of free agents would all hit the market at once which would help drive down any potential demand.
I do think it's reasonable to expect Roy to give Dallas the inside track and likely stay if he's offered a competitive deal. By all accounts it seems the Stars have treated him very well and took his best interests to heart. He's one of the few players who's still getting paid through all this . How many players spend time skating with their GM? That can't possibly hurt any negotiation.
The Stars keep posting these icegirl event flyers on my facebook. I keep getting mad whenever I see them because it just feels like they're rubbing the complete lack of hockey in my face. That's when I realized that the lockout is making me resent scantily clad women, that is some ****ed up **** right there.

If I wasn't almost hired by them (thanks lockout) back in May, I would have already left tons of comments on all of those statuses. It's a joke. You know it's some intern posting all that crap. It's either ice girl crap or over posting about Modano. It really makes me made.
