Bettman couldn't go in and face Fehr? Is he scared of him? Playing games with him? It's December 6th, stop with the shenanigans.

Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
fehr and players take to the podium
edit:
Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
Don Fehr: says players responded "comprenhesnively" and not much room left
Nick Cotsonika @cotsonika
Don Fehr: Players think they have offered a clear outline to end this dispute.
Nick Cotsonika @cotsonika
Don Fehr: We hope we have an agreement on pension plan, funded out of player money. Believe agreement on transition payments.
Brad Richards, Crosby, Doan, Maholtra, etc are there

Props for that. Split the difference. 6.5 year maximum.

Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
players offered 8 yr deal with opt out after 6 yrs today
Nick Cotsonika @cotsonika
Don Fehr: Remaining issues are primarily max length of player contract and variability from year to year.
Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
says there is agreement on pension plans
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
We proposed max 8 year length. on variability: 7yrs or longer contract -- lowest year of contract had to be at least 25 per cent of highest

That's a huge win for the owners. They should take it and close the deal.

It's business. Duly authorized representatives were there. Get over who gets "dissed".
Especially when for months you've been foaming at the mouth about how you want Bettman OUT of the room.

Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
"we have not discussed with owners what our transition rules" will be
Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
"We think there is a complete agreement on dollars ... "
Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
players want 8 yr contract limit and not 5 and think they are closer, not farther apart

The tone isn't so doom and gloom from Fehr right now. Listening on Siriusxm. It sounds like they have agreed on multiple fronts but still work to be done.

I don't think the NHL ever expected the players to agree to 5 year limits. Likewise, I don't think the PA expects the NHL to accept 8. Just posturing.

Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
Fehr said Daly and Bob Batterman were only ones to h ear their proposal
Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
Fehr thinks an agreement can be completed in a short term if league accepts this
Nick Cotsonika @cotsonika
Don Fehr: "We will wait and see what they say and when they say it."
Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
says 5 yr contact limit was a MAJOR sticking point ... sounds like sides are indeed closer even though league was not happy today

I expect work that needs to be done until a CBA comes together. Hopefully tonight something can work out. Never know. They may not even be that much apart. The NHL can come with a counter tonight the PA accepts.
