Yeah I could have misread it. That rule only would apply to 7 and 8 year deals anyway.

I think Per Bjurman have a valid question when he says
"Another question is , If everything was so good, why was there a need for mediators?"

Renaud Lavoie @RenLavoieRDS
Expect bad news soon.
Dan Rosen @drosennhl
For what it is worth now, Sidney Crosby sounded optimistic that this is an offer that can get it done.

Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
this is FAR better news than we thought was coming given absence of faces and anger expressed before meeting.
D.Fehr and players coming back to podium. Hope Lavoie is not right.
Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
now told Don Fehr is coming back to clarify something ...
It could either be good or very, very bad. Bad in the sense that Bettman emailed a response that Fehr did not like after Fehr spent a whole presser talking up the NHLPA's counter which worked off of the NHL's proposal yesterday.

Like I said I hope this is not why players and fehr are coming back to podium.

LOL, that would be rich.
Fehr spent a good chunk of time with that presser. He went over a lot of areas. What could be left? ....a response by the NHL.

WOW.
“@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Fehr says NHL left a voicemail message saying NHLPA counter wasn't acceptable. No need to stick around today or Friday. Talks broken for now”
“@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Fehr says right now it doesn't appear labor impasse will be resolved soon”

Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
"This is n ot going to be resolved in the immediate future." wow. proposal shot down right away
Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
fehr says voice mail from Bill Daly to Steve Fehr. PA's offer rejected; he has no idea when the two sides will talk again

Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
voice mail had some audio issues ... Fehr said league told them the offer was "unacceptable" what a turn of events in minutes here
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
So, long story short, it's not good. Talks have broken off and who knows where the hell this goes now
Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN
from sheer optimism to talks breaking off in minutes. you can script this.

OK. I'm stunned.
I guess the tip off was when the Toronto owners walked out this afternoon? These guys said they were prepared to stay until the lockout ends. I wonder what set these guys off?

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if the NHLPA floated these ideas and the league got all pissy so Fehr said **** it lets put it out to the media, but this **** is ridiculous

If the owners are doing this to squeeze the players more than they already need to, I want the players to hold off and make the NHL cancel the season.

They really are. No negotiations tonight, none tomorrow. Instead of getting in the room and countering or discussing things further tonight, they shut them out.
