Yeah Mauer has a solid bat too, that's why it would be easier for a guy like him to transition to first and stay productive.
I'm not suggesting he moves now, but I wonder how long he'll last.
Probably till his mid 30's, then youd transition him. Having a guy that productive with his bat as ur catcher is not common so I wouldnt want to consider moving him before u need to.
Not sure if this was mentioned but Jays are interested in FA RP Jason Grilli. Last year he had 90 strikeouts in 58 2/3 Innings and a 2.91 ERA with the Pirates.
yankees got youkolis dammit
and there was a red sox trade
tsn
I see nothing concrete about either of those things (no announcement on Youkilis, no Sox traded listed of relevance) and it's not really a big deal either.
Youk is what, 34-36? He can't play much 3rd anymore because he's losing athleticism at a precipitous rate and he's now had 2 down years from his high and even if he rebounds it wouldn't be back to his prime Sox level of play. He's basically a part-timer at 1st/DH without any power and no glove value. He has value as a bench bat, but he's not the answer for the Blue Jays in any regard.

Yeah it's been talked about all day. He was suppose to announce by 10 this morning.
13 million to piss of the red sox. Who cares and I haven't seen it announced as official just that they have an offer out to him for that amount.
As for this red sox trade I don't see it anywhere.
The only thing I can see that's recent is that they signed Uehara, and that they traded the guy they picked in the MLB phase of the Rule 5 draft (IF Jeff Kobernus) to Detroit for another minor leaguer. Which is largely irrelevant.
@JonHeymanCBS: at least #bluejays along w/ #rangers involved in RA Dickey talks. toronto thought unlikely to trade D'Arnaud. gose maybe
Without an extension, I would have serious reservations about JPA for Dickey straight up. 1 year of a pitcher who's main pitch is environment-driven, who has 3 years of decent play (1 of elite), and who is 38 for a young power hitting catcher with several years of control, a great contract, and who we might be selling lower on now than next year (depending on his year). JPA is worth more than Salty, but how much is the question.

That's a solid signing for the Sox. But yeah nothing confirmed and a swap of minor leaguers seems odd to get worked up about.
What is that, 42 million for a pair of declining 3B of which one is injured.
Lawrie is looking good.
Don't think it's fair to call Youk a 3B anymore. He's got zero value there defensively (if anything he has noteworthy negative value as a defensive 3B). He's basically a 1B/DH from here on out.

With ARod reportedly is out for 4 to 6 weeks I believe to start the year so he may be playing at 3B for them to start the year.
What were people saying about Bautista? I don't like the idea of moving Joey Bats to 1B/DH one bit.
Well not now obviously. When he gets older though it's not out of the realm of possibilities to have him switch to 1b/dh duties allowing a younger more athletic fielder to play right. That's way down the road though.
Yeah, Cy Youngs aren't anything special, we need prospects yo
They are special. But he is 38, you don't know if he will be the same as he was last year, and you don't wanna guess at the expense of a player who could be dynamite in the OF.

gose is a question mark, dickey is a question mark
while gose may be good someday, he aint a regular next year, whereas dickey is proven to be at least a good pitcher (hopefully great)
age notwithstanding (who cares about age, we could sign a guy at 27 who walks at 30, for example) 2-3 years of good for another guy who may have 2-3 good years down the road seems....hey it's a gamble but it'd be fine with it

He has .3 higher WAR than Marcum in 2 more seasons. He was the 6th best SP in the NL in WAR last year. He was 5th best in xFIP. It's not like we'd be acquiring prime Roy Halladay here.
